Caught in a loop |
I transplanted the PSU from the old case. Over the years, the 8-pin PCIe power connector has apparently changed and the PSU in the "new" case wasn't compatible with the RTX (I remember because I had to go back to the store the day I bought it because the connector wouldn't fit). I wanted it over there anyway as it's a higher wattage power supply. In rebuilding it I noticed I had a larger number of a specific style of screw that came off the old case (I remember noticing that I was short when I did the swap, I assumed the carpet ate it), so I suspect I did a dumb and trapped a screw under the motherboard (odd, because given the area it would have happened I would have expected PCIe errors and not memory). Luckily there appears to be no lasting damage except to my pride from having to admit it, but I'll be doing some stress testing to confirm that. Either way, I'll definitely remember this for future motherboard swaps. "In order to understand recursion, you must first learn the principle of recursion." | |||
