Car make, model and year? Pictures? _________________________________________________________________________ “A man’s treatment of a dog is no indication of the man’s nature, but his treatment of a cat is. It is the crucial test. None but the humane treat a cat well.” -- Mark Twain, 1902

all of the ones I have seen have a small tab inside that you use to snuff out a butt. you simply push down on that and pull the tray out.

There will be several 7mm screws you have to take loose underneath the dash bezel. If they are not there, there may be two pair of slots on the top of the housing. Place toothpicks in the holes and squeeze each pair together and rotate the assembly down. You're welcome.

I hate running into those things, where your brain doesn't line up with something otherwise aparently simple. Happens to me from time to time working on all kinds of things, including my family's four vehicles. I agree youtube is your friend here. There's probably a thousand other guys who couldn't figure it out, and when they finally did, at least one of them youtubed the solution. Lover of the US Constitution Wile E. Gloom, despair and agony on me. |
You’re still being vague. All the details might help with trying to answer your question. 2004-2006 Suzuki Verona? Maybe pulling the panel the gear shifter is? Does it look similar to this?

Looks like you will have to remove the console trim which looks like it is held in by clips and needs to be carefully pried out. Then you can reveal the screws that hold the ashtray in. Link below shows the clips. https://www.ebay.com/itm/312589728643This message has been edited. Last edited by: drabfour,

You can try a small trim prybar from lowes or Home Depot. They are usually just about an inch wide and six inches long, you can wrap one end with blue painters tape. Or use a small plastic scraper for pans, I got mine at bed bath and beyond but they went tits up. "Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor.” Robert A. So is it a Mercedes or a Suzuki?

It’s a Suzuki as he mentioned earlier the video link was just to show the style of ashtray. Similar but not the same shows prying the console cover off. Not a lot on YouTube with your particular model. I believe you would need to lift yours from the back as it has two tabs that roll in on the front to secure it into place.
