Tire proration and warranty replacement questions Login/Join

Background:
I have Toyo Open Country HT 275/70r18s on my truck. They have been rotated, balanced, and are worn evenly across the tread. They have 4/32s of tread left in 30,000 miles of use. They have a 50,000 mile tread life warranty. Based on the current wear, they might have had another 5,500 miles before being worn to the wear bars. They have never been punctured or patched.

One tire is delaminating. I've never dealt with tread life warranty or other warranty issues with tires before.

Questions:

What should I expect with respect to the tire that's falling apart?

What should I expect with respect to the tread life of the remaining tires?

Am I going to have to pay a prorated amount for the replacement of the tire that's falling apart and wait 5,500 miles to make the tread life claim on the remaining tires?

If any warranty claim is approved, do I have to buy the same model or brand, or can I buy a different brand?

Is it correct to assume the warranties only cover the tires and any labor, disposal fees, valve stems, road hazard, etc. will come out of my pocket?

I actually already have replacement tires sitting in my garage. They were purchased from the same company the Toyos were and will be installed by the same company as well.

So it looks like Toyo will only apply the warranty towards a similar Toyo brand tire. Since you still should have 40% of the trad left and you have zero (4/32), I’m not sure how that will calculate out.

You don’t have to wait the 5500 miles to hit the wear bars. They calculate usable tread depth. In the end, the warranty will depend a lot on the store you bought the tires from and what kind of relationship you have with them.

Here is Toyo’s warranty policy:

Just because you can,
doesn't mean you should

You may want to see if something like this applies to you tires.

Well, according to the formula in the warranty, I get nothing for the tire that's falling apart. Reviewing the tread wear warranty, the tires have to be down to the wear bars to make a claim, so I'm screwed on both counts.

It'll be good to get these garbage tires off my truck this week.

I took mine to the original tire installer and they processed this and it turned into about a 40% discount on the new set.

Go to a stocking Toyo dealer near you and show them. I've had tire dealers be able to get through to the manufacturer and get favorable results.
