Blue car in the side pocket, El Paso officer near miss
Thankfully the officer was not injured. I’ve watched multiple times and cannot figure out how the VW missed the officer’s motorcycle, the guardrail, and somehow squeezed into the space between the officer and his motorcycle:

I was wondering where the other car went before I realized it was pushed way up ahead on the shoulder. I hope that kid got out of the ticket at least.

I'm struggling to understand how the driver avoided the officer's motorcycle.

Almost guaranteed the at fault driver was on the got damn phone.
What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone
That’s what it looked like to me. I’m thinking the only way the VW misses the motorcycle and the officer at that speed is by sliding between the motorcycle and officer with a little right English and banking it off the rail.

A lot of concern for the motorcycle that didn't get hit, and the officer that didn't get hit.
I hope the guy who actually got hit so hard it rolled his car 500 feet down the highway is OK.

Exactly...I watch the video at 0.25x speed and when the Officer turns around to look at the Motorcycle, you can see a tire mark on the curb. The VW very likely avoided the MC and then his car 'course corrected' due to physics/riding the curb, for a 'direct hit' rear end collision with the Mazda.
Ultimately, there but for the Grace of God, that LEO was unharmed.

I'm sure I will get some hate, but, here it goes...
For minor violations, like speeding, etc., police should NOT pull over cars on the highway. They should proceed to the nearest exit and that is where they can give the ticket to the offending driver.
It is simply not safe for the officer, the violator, and the other traffic on the highway.
As we all know people don't pay attention, some like moths, drive towards the light, and it seems like most are finger screwing with their phones.
At least on the exit ramp the traffic stop will be much safer for all concerned.

Thankfully that officer survived that near miss! Distracted driving is worse now with so many cars and trucks having displays on the dash. Many regular "muscle memory" functions like adjusting the AC/heater are now embedded into the touchscreen.

Thinking maybe he wasn't in Park when he stopped, got hit and lifted foot and the car went forward, either that or it broke some thing in the drive train and allowed it to roll forward.
That's going to be some serious medical bills for that man....

Long time ago I was in EMS. Single vehicle MVA with four injured. When it became time to load and roll I asked the NM State Police officer to stop traffic on I-25 while we loaded.
He said that unless he had orders from Santa Fe he couldn’t stop traffic. A quick back and forth and I said “Well what happens if I block both lanes with my ambulance?”
His reply was “I’m going to order you to move it as soon as I can find you.” So I crossed through the median and played roadblock.
It took him a few minutes to find me……just long enough to load and roll. As I’m opening the drivers door to get in he said “Move this thing”
