Is there some reason that anyone except the Michigan GOP would choose the timing and method of putting primary candidates on the ballot so long as it occurs early enough that the ballots can be printed (or input)?
Write ins are fine but in a state wide race, not numerically really an option.
Our election dates are set in statute. The parties don't pick them, the legislature set the dates to 3 in a non presidential year. May, August and Novenmber

JoeSigBrad shares much wisdom re this....
The liberal cabal has a strangle-hold on the decent people of Michigan - even the Repugs have little fortitude to make things right.

Thanks. What I was thinking about there in particular is whether the state GOP wasn't in a position to dictate how candidates would be chosen to be put on the ballot, as long as they did so in plenty of time for the names to get on the ballot before the election.
