mark123A little advice from the bird folks
Step mom sold her house and will be moving to a smaller place. She probably won’t be able to take my dad’s parakeet and I am wondering what is involved in finding a new family for it.
The poor thing doesn’t chirp like it used to since it’s mate passed away. Will he be happier with someone that has another bird?

Mars_AttacksToo bad you aren't here in Georgia.
Yes, he would be happier with a bird person.

Thanks, Robert. I do wish I were closer.
I think it does make sense to find someone that has a bird or two. This little fella doesn’t like being handled and really hates leaving his cage.

irreverentJust needs someone who needs someone. Doesn’t need to be a bird person, just someone who needs a friend. Parakeets can be excellent companions. That said, they need to know basic husbandry, and dangers (ie Teflon, chocolate, etc)

ScreamingCockatooPut him up for adoption on a bird group and interview potential new owners.
I had to be interviewed to get Coco.
She was 2 hours away and I drove down for just an interview after a phone interview.

That is just one of many things. Your home changes a ton to accommodate the safety of a bird so you want to make sure it goes to a home that knows how to care for it. If you have Facebook, there are bird groups you can post in to try and find a home for it.

Teflon
?
I get that it would be toxic to a tiny creature with a high metabolism, but how does it get ingested?
