When I was a kid Australia sounded like this cool, wild, rugged place, full of rednecks doing redneck shit, the Alabama of the British Empire.

Now, not so much, I guess.

Why not use the machete bin? Might have to stuff them a bit to force them through that hole.

Without my machete I could not chop weeds along my fence row. Those criminal alien weeds (English ivy) win again.

If they were serious about it they would implement a machete buy-back program. Roll Eyes

I've always had at least one machete, and now own two. Both have had some hard use, one is a Scrapyard which I bought maybe 5 years ago from the original owner (and paid too much for), the other is a smaller no name one I bought maybe fifteen years ago for about $20. Both are quite rugged and sharp.

Both hang in my garage, the smaller one by the side of my Craftsman rolling toolboxes on one of the workbench legs right where I come out of the laundry room door into the garage, the other hangs on the front of the garage wall just above the rear left side of my Pilot. Pretty easy to grab one or the other.

Never considered their positioning to be for self defense, rather they get the call for weeds, the occasional snake (I try not to kill the non-poisonous ones)
small trees and similar matters. I probably use one or the other at least a couple-three times a month, sometimes more.

I simply can't imagine giving these very useful tools to the government. I guess today is a good day to thank the Lord I was born in America and not somewhere-anywhere-else.

Is that just in Victoria, or all the nation? I can't see being out there in the Outback and remote areas without something like a machete. This article seems to point just at Victoria for the ban and it follows some gang-on-gang violence in public venues.

If you prove a “legitimate need” to the government they might give you a waiver.

Australia would be one of THE BEST countries on this planet if they didn’t have that shittastic government and all those nanny state loving assholes willing to trade liberty for the false promise of security.

Its a shame the good, liberty loving Australians have to suffer the consequences of those fools. The short time I spent in Australia was INCREDIBLE! It has soooooo much potential.

Thankfully I'm at my work computer, and the coffee that went shooting through my nose and on to the Toughbook didn't harm it! Big Grin

I thought Australia had pretty strict immigration laws? I guess had may be the key word.

It's not like they swam there.

At one point they did. I remember a rather incendiary (to leftist losers) public relations campaign that boldly told illegal immigrants that they would not make a home in Australia, but that country seems to change politicians/leaders quite frequently and I don’t follow it all that closely anymore. Plus there are a metric ton of chuckleheads living there so who knows how it is right now over there.
