My drive to my new job takes me on a route that basically makes the two country stations in the area unusable so I started thinking about Sirius XM again. I’m not going to buy a radio for the satellite service so if I did it I would just go with the “Essential” package which is 100% streaming only. So I’m just curious if anyone here uses it and how it works for them. I read the most recent reviews on the App Store and they are probably 95% 1 star reviews but most are mentioning the app not saving a favorites list properly. I’d likely just listen to a couple of stations and not worry about setting up favorites and all that anyway.

Are you an Amazon Prime member? If so you already have a streaming service available to you. Heck even the free Pandora is better than pay for Sirius XM. We have the free 3 month trial (not used the app) but the stations leave a lot to be desired. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. I tried it, and was not impressed. The sound quality is pretty bad. I would recommend the $10 a month Spotify Premium service, I love it.

I do have a prime membership but have never tried out their streaming service. We also have an Apple Music subscription and that’s what I’ve been using so far. Problem is that it’s not terribly good as far as content goes. What I like about listening to the radio is hearing the DJ talk about random stuff and whatnot. Can’t get that with any streaming service because they aren’t “stations” in the traditional sense. Only Sirius XM provides that as far as I know. Not the end of the world though. Maybe what I need to do is explore Apple Music some more, as well as check out the prime music service.

I’m glad I asked here instead of trying the free trial period. I do remember back when I had a radio in my vehicle that the sound quality was bad. I see it hasn’t changed. I really didn’t want to deal with them again after how difficult it was to cancel my service back then either.

Does Prime work in the car? I have it and use it at home some. I've had xm since I bought my Ridgeline in 08. Pay $5 a month and can also listen on my pc as well as in car. Sound is compressed but so is prime. ________________________ God spelled backwards is dog

I regularly drive on back roads for work, where there is no cell service. So, I subscribe to SiriusXM. I love it. For non-musical entertainment, I download and listen to several podcasts. I have used the SiriusXM app at home a few times, streaming via wifi. But I don't like it as well as good ol' Apple Music. Try streaming Amazon. If that doesn't work for you, I second Spotify. With Premium you can download music to your phone so you don't have to worry about using data or being out of cellular coverage. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell

We have SiriusXM in wife’s and daughters’ cars, but I stream it in my truck since I don’t have the radio. One poster above says it doesn’t sound good, but I’m very happy with it. I stream TIDAL for my home system, and I’d use SIriusXM for lite listening if it would work.(I tried one time, and it wouldn’t for some reaso). I also use Tunein Radio, which is free, and I’m happy listening to music and talk stations of high quality. Free is also good. FYI, TIDAL gives a military discount. Retired Texas Lawman

It appears that iHeartRadio has actual live radio stations available. So I’m gonna try that app out and see how it goes.

Being that above you said you actually like to listen to DJs I was going to suggest iHeart Radio. I can’t stand listening to DJs. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. I hear you and usually I would say the same thing but ever since I started this new job I basically don’t talk to anyone nor hear anyone else’s voice with the exception of talking to my wife for the last hour or so before heading into work. (I work nights now and it minimally staffed)

Amazon Prime is pretty bleak, honestly. Lots of stuff is only available with Unlimited (understandable), but a large amount of what is available is stuff like re-recorded tracks, tribute bands, or live recordings. And that's not necessarily bad, but to me, it is-YMMV. I put a new head unit in my other vehicle in January and along with it, an SXM tuner. I have to say I'm underwhelmed with the predictable fare, but it does give me options. I find I like it more on the spoken word side, with talk/comedy/podcasts. My favorite alternative source to terrestrial radio is still TuneIn. You've got everything from internet-only stations to terrestrial radio simulcasts from around the world. PCRadio (don't know if it's available for Apple, but for sure on Android devices)is another I like.

I use the satellite service, but I tried the streaming over cell signal. The reason I tried it was my CarPlay doesn't easily switch to my radio. If I was using Waze on CarPlay I had to exit that menu and go back to the main menu to get to Sirius. I was able to put the app on CarPlay, thus avoiding the excessive menu changes while driving. Anyhow the reason I stopped was as stated in the OP, my favorites would not save. They would be there for a few days and then disappear. So when switching stations I'd have to scroll through all the stations. These go to eleven.

We have Sirius in both our cars and the app. I use that on my phone on the bike, the garden tractor and the 67 Pontiac. At work I use my Ipad and home depending where and what I'm doing either a laptop, the Ipad or if I'm really ambitious I plug one of them into the low power AM transmitter and play it through one of the tube radios. -------------------------------------—————— ————————--Ignorance is a powerful tool if applied at the right time, even, usually, surpassing knowledge(E.J.Potter, A.K.A. I use both XM and Spotify. XM is easy while Spotify takes a few extra steps to initiate in my vehicle. For a short run I usually use XM but for a longer run, Spotify. I have a playlist of over 500 songs that I like on Spotify, No junk, I'm sorry if I hurt you feelings when I called you stupid - I thought you already knew - Unknown ...................................
