Work is in need of converting quite a large amount of excel forms into a different format. I'm decent with macros & formulae, but there are just too many damn different combinations that need to be dealt with. Anyone have experience with / recommendations of a service that would go through an excel file and move data into another sheet? These are data forms that have specifications in a single, merged cell in a column, mostly nominal & tolerance but sometimes it will be a word-specification ('No <whatever> <wherever>') and/or other combinations based on whoever created it 10 years ago. A lot of <spec> +/- <tolerance> or <spec> ± <tolerance> in various ways of typing it, but the fun ones are goofy & hard to anticipate. I don't have the patience for 50+ ElseIf statements in VBA. A short one has 6 pages (each on a separate sheet) and I had I had at least 13 different cases on the 1st sheet, and my quick macro errored on the 2nd due to a different format. The longest one is something like 25 pages and would have even more cases. It took someone familiar with the format about an hour to enter the 'short' file into the new system we're going to launch, there are hundreds to do. There's a format that can be uploaded, but separating that 1 column of varied data will take a lot of manpower that I don't have. My team would likely slit my throat if I suggested we take this on, and that might be a kindness. I've avoided this since February & had a good argument to squash the project (save money, hassle and improve a labor-intensive process without adding headcount) but I was overruled 'that's too much change'. I'm just glad my team isn't going to actually USE this system - the guy who is over that is taking a beating daily. | ||
