During our short season I spend as much time as I can on the water. Yesterday on Lake Ontario off Sodus Point, NY I happened upon this. Relative of I am Weather Balloon?

Looks like a NOAA buoy, but according to their website there isn't one in that location.

I think it may be a research project/joint venture for several colleges and universities. Or, something sinister from overseas.

Or possible the Canadians gathering data for an impending assault on New York.

That was my assumption. The Mounties must be gathering current and tide data so they can plan an OTB amphibious assault on Rochester.

I mean, why else would they need a heavily militarized SEAL-style dive team?

They even have a ‘mid-lake’ buoy in Lake Michigan, mostly for boaters. I think if you dove under it, you’d see it’s anchored to the bottom.

A) This isn’t, completely, because my ex lives in NYC.

B) I know upstate NY is gorgeous, but do you think we could con the Canadians into taking NYC?

Canada needs to worry more about getting one of its NHL teams to win the Stanley Cup.

I think their biggest worry is getting rid of Trudeau.

An image search says that's a Yellow Springs Instruments (YSI) EMM2.0 coastal bouy. The company was started in Yellow Springs, Ohio which is a little west of Dayton.

Seems to belong to the SUNY College of ESF. link

"the project will evaluate and retrofit if possible two or three YSI EMM 2.0 buoys for deployment in the near shore regions of Lake Ontario ... A second system (Sodus Bay Station) with instrumentation for wave, water column temperature and lake water level will be placed at the mouth of the Channel to Sodus Bay (Sodus Bay Station)."

That's just what they want you to think... If you do a little digging, you'll see that ownership is nested within a number of different shell companies, with the ultimate parent company being a maple syrup distribution firm that's a known front for the Canadian government. Follow the money.

If you spray paint those solar panels and zip tie the anemometer down, someone will be along fairly quickly to repair it. You just gotta fish under it for a few days
