corsairSECWAR Hegseth summons everybody ranked 1-star and above to attend meeting
Rumormill wants to think we're going to war; don't need a meeting like this to layout a warning order. I think this is simply a commander's intent-type of meeting, SECWAR is going to lay-out what's expected for the brass and knock-off any political talk. Unusual meeting at this rank but, a more common gathering at the battalion, bridge, squadron, group level units.
Hegseth abruptly summons hundreds of top military leaders to meeting quote:
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has summoned the military’s top officers — hundreds of generals and admirals — to a base in northern Virginia for a sudden meeting next week, according to three people familiar with the matter.
The directive did not offer a reason for the gathering Tuesday of senior commanders of the one-star rank or higher and their top advisers at the Marine Corps base in Quantico. The people, who described the move as unusual, were not authorized to publicly discuss the sensitive plans and spoke on condition of anonymity.
The Pentagon’s top spokesman, Sean Parnell, confirmed that Hegseth “will be addressing his senior military leaders early next week.”
Across the military, there are 800 generals and admirals of all ranks. Many command thousands of service members and are stationed across the world in more than a dozen countries and time zones.
The meeting, first reported by The Washington Post, comes on the heels of several unusual and unexplained actions that Hegseth has taken involving military leaders.

Having no military background, I just want to say this sort of thing sounds fantastic to me. All we heard during the last administration was all the pageantry of all the DEI and trannies being celebrated. Would love to see all that shit go away and us pivot to the military again being about being ready, willing, and supremely capable of absolutely fucking up anyone and everyone.

For a military force at peak of 16,000,000 not counting the workers at defense plants where flag officers oversaw production.
That's one flag officer for every 8,000 military personnel.
Today the force is about 2,100,000.
800 flag officers is one for every 2,600 military personnel.
I recall when I worked under contract to the Marine Corps in 1997 listening to active duty and retired O-5s and O-6s complain that the Marines had too many flag officers (IIRC, it was over 150) and was not organized as they would be deployed for war.
I say fire 90% of the current crop, promote new officers, and call it a day.

Rey HRHI'm thinking they suspect their secure communication system isn't secure. You don't bring everyone in military leadership all in one spot for canapes and hors d'oeuvres.
It probably is to get a positive buy-in of the current administration's values and policies intended for the Department of War.
"Ladies and gentlemen, you have exactly 60 seconds to shit or get off the pot."
And if you need a meeting in preparation for a war, you don't have much of a war department in the first place.
"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." I don't think anyone is that stupid, it'd be a nuclear response.

I saw a clip from Hegseth discussing exactly this. Per that clip, his goal was a 20% reduction in flag officers this year, then another 20% next year.
As an old soldier, one thing we need to fix ( which should be pretty easy in the digital age) is our tooth to tail ratio. If memory serves, in WWII there was something like 10 support troops to every infantryman, and that ratio is now like 20:1. The archaic Army system of echelons of supply and repair ( where each echelon was authorized a certain amount of services they could do on a particular item) should go. Letting more repairs be effected closer to lines of battle, and skipping to a depot level repair, without multiple steps in between is more logical today. And bear in mind every echelon of support, be it maintenance supply admin etc all have a top heavy command structure associate with it.

I'm not former military, but I suspect Pete is going to take a play out of Corporate America's 1990s downsizing playbook and utter the phrase "look left and look right, those people won't be here in 2 years"

You could very well be right but if I was running an organization and needed to unfuck it the military would not be my model. even of the 90s.
Regional businesses would get my first look; lighter on how it looks to the news pukes. bigger on meeting the mission.
