Hm… iPhone X (10), iPhone 12, iPhone 14 … It appears that the sequence leads to iPhone 16. Smile

Thanks for the review.

My iPhone 16 Pro came via UPS yesterday. Today I went to T-Mobile to get it set up, and to get the credit for the iPhone 12 Pro that I returned.

The first really neat thing I noticed about the 16 Pro was rather mundane – my finger slides so smoothly over its oleophobic screen surface (compared to the 12 Pro). And, after several hours of use, there not the tiniest smudge on the screen.

8's are no longer supported on ios 17 nor 18 I'm afraid.

You’re right - I just checked and my phone shows iOS 16.7.10 and says I’m up to date — for iPhone 8. So whatever is available in 17 or 18 I’m SOL. Yup! Time to trade these in.

You'll get bupkes (or maybe less) for a trade-in. What I did instead of giving them my old iPhone for pennies, I kept it. No cell service, but it connects to the internet just fine via WiFi, so it's useful as sort of a micro-size iPad. Mainly stays at bedside, it's a fine alarm clock. Also useful for spur-of-the-moment notes, etc.

V-Tail, that’s a great idea.
Another might be to give my old iPhone to my daughter, who uses a Pixel phone. She has an iPad and a Mac, so that might lure her back into the Apple Trapple.

I guess I wasn’t clear enough here. I’m not liking what feels like a more fragile connection. Lightning is a post that fits into a hole, and it snaps in with a nice positive feel.

USB-C is a post with a hole that needs to fit into a hole that also has a center post. The connection feels more fragile and every cable I have seems to fit with what feels and sounds like a disconcerting “crunch”.

I have some fondness for the Lightning connector too. Besides the crisp insertion/extraction click that PASig mentions, I also appreciate the slightly rounded corners of the Lightning plug that makes insertion considerably easier.

That said, USB-C is clearly the way forward. Furthermore, Apple has somehow managed to make insertion/extraction of a USB-C plug into/from the jack of my new iPhone 16 Pro produce a crisp “click”. Similar with my M3 MacBook Air, except it’s not quite as crisp.

Forget the charging connector for every day use. I went wireless charging.
Simply drop the phone on the charging pad on my nightstand when I go down for the night.
Pick it up when I get dressed in the AM. No wires or plugs.
I love it!

Just upgraded my 11 to a 16 Pro last week. Only because the 11 started giving me trouble with charging. The cable plug need to be angled/moved until it touches something that lets me know it is charging. Any slight movement, it stops charging. I really have no need for the latest and greatest phone. The old one just started giving me problem I was able to get at $350 trade in discount, which gives me $10 credit each billing month.

I'm thinking of getting the 16 pro max...my eyes need the bigger screen. Very curious about your experience.

My wife's sim card failed so I had to go into the verizon store to replace it. I asked if they had any deals for a existing valued customer and they said that all four of my lines qaulified for the upgrade. that along with our tradin's made them all free. 1 XR, 1 12, and 13 pros in exchange for 4 16 pros!!! Since it wouldnt raise my bill i went for it. Even though its there way of keeping you as a customer for 3 years. With the new plan and autobilling it went down 30 bucks a month.. I couldnt say no.

But after seeing Para's thread on AI i kinda feel sick to my stomach Frown

Anybody have a new 16 plus? Its $200 cheaper than the 16 Promax. I need a larger screen and it seems that everything is pretty similar except less standard memory and not as good a camera.

We’re shopping for 15s but so far the price difference between 15s and 16s isn’t that great. We need to buy outright because we travel internationally several times a year and want unlocked phones so we can install E-sims to have cheap data overseas. All the monthly deals require the phone to stay locked for 24 months.

I need to be able to pause video and then restart without using a third party app. Does the 16 do this?

On my iPhone 16 Pro I can pause & restart a YouTube video. I could also do that on my iPhone 12 Pro.

No third party app required for either.

On my new iPhone 16 Pro running iOS 18.0.1 I now see:

Text Messages- RCS

when I text someone with an Android phone. I wonder when that happened. Better for texting with my brother now.
