Ok...so it’s not an Epstein story but this lady thinks you can kill a hog just fine with a .22 pistol and, thus, AR’s should be illegal.

Clearly she’s not local.

I like to sneak up quietly from behind them and slit their throats while whispering "shhhh…" in their ears.

.22's work quite well on domestic pigs in a pen that are used to people walking up to the fence to bring them food. I'm of the mind that they are not so effective on hyper-sensitive wild hogs hell bent on escape at the first sign of human presence.

Of course, perhaps this .22 caliber pistol would be acceptable?

I’ve killed many (30 or more) feral hogs in my trap with a cheap, shitty Heritage Rough Rider .22 magnum loaded with .22WRF ammunition. They usually stand there looking at me chomping their teeth while I shoot them in the head. The old man who traps them with me uses an ancient Remington .22LR bolt action to kill them. Most of the time one shot from either gun does the job.

I wouldn’t want to try to drop one with those weapons if the hog wasn’t in a trap, though.

That is how they killed the hogs in the old days before butchering them. I have the Winchester 1890 from my mothers side of the family that was used to kill the hogs.

I remember as a kid and bringing the hog down on a sled drawn by horses and hanging him on a tripod.

They cooked some of the parts and it was some good eating. I wish I had pictures of the event.

Must be before photography was invented.

More people are killed by a .22 than any other caliber.

We killed hogs and cattle for slaughter with a .22 when I was growing up. A .22 will get the job done but not much room for error. Nowadays I use a .45 ACP or 10mm with a head shot for a note of finality.

I love to use 22lr for feral hogs. People assume that shooting hogs is a long range game, but most all of my shots are inside 20 yards. They usually have their heads down, rooting away on the sides of sod fields. Head and neck shots drop them where they stand. That said, I wouldn't consent that a 22 is all that's needed, even though thats all I use.

Helping a friend... his brother pulled a 22 revolver out and put 3 rounds point blank to a big hog's head, might have been a 22 short, Pow Pow Pow... hog shook it off.

We had to wait for him to go fetch a rifle from the house, also a 22. One shot to the roughly the same spot did the job.

I gave him a real hard time about being inhumane to that hog... and scolded him to never ever do that again!

.223 rounded properly to the nearest hundredth is .22, so yes.

My brother, Fondly referred to as , “Dirty Chuck”, killed the last hog to be killed at my great grandmothers farm in north Florida when I was a kid. He used my Pop-pop’s( my grand dad) Remington 550.

One round off the split rail fence into its noggin and that was a wrap. I fondly remember the day , as everyone came from miles away to help butcher several hogs and smoke them and salt the pork.

I remember many a fall trip to the grandparents out in the country,

open the fridge on a Sat or Sun morning and see a hog's brain floating in a margarine bowl,, neat little hole thru one side,

grandpa loved some fresh brains and eggs,

My Mom prided herself on using everything but the squeal. My dad once told me they used a .22 to kill the hogs and steers for slaughter so as not to damage the brains too much. Head cheese and ox tail and cow tongue and such were thought to be treats where I grew up. Folks today just can't imagine what the old timers did to feed themselves and their families.

We butchered a hog at least once a year when I was a kid. Used nothing but .22. Clean 1 shot kills. Would not advise attempting kill shots anywhere else with a .22. Domestic or wild!
