Anyone have a Tactacam Defend camera?
I have a Bushnell Cellcore or something like that on the drive at the Cabin.
Works great at telling me when someone comes or goes from the drive. Grabs plates very well.
However the drive is far from the cabin so I get three pics going up the drive or coming down.
But can’t tell what is going on between.

I have a Spypoint inside as they give free 500 pics a month and it’s inside out of the weather and always plugged in. So I know if someone goes in.

I see the Tactacam Defend is more of a security setup that I could put up on the pole and get the cabin and barn entrances at once much better viewing capability than the standard game cams.

With the Tactacam is there a way I can tell it to send me a photo?
Watched a few videos and saw there is a Check In picture option in the menu. Does that mean I can take a snapshot whenever I want and have it sent?

The Tactacam. Reveal Ultra has a live feed you can pull up but looking for the broader view of the Defend.
Don’t care too much about live video but would like to have it snap and send me a pic upon request.

I have a couple of Tactacam Reveals (2.0 and an XB) on the farm. I'm pretty happy with them except that they can chew through 12 AA's in a hurry. They're in the woods so I don't have the solar option.

You can request on-demand photos or videos with some of them but it typically costs over and above your basic plan. You can also request HD version of your photos, also at a cost. I think it's 50 images/videos for $5 so not exorbitant.

The web app and mobile app are both solid and intuitive and make it easy to set up the camera, check FOV, and manage the photos and videos.

I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.

Looking at the Tactacam packages it says the PLUS add on is $9 that is 1 year cloud storage, unlimited remote HD, video, downloads, and On demand photos. Covers all cameras.
Is that $9 a year or month?

Can I just turn it on when I need it and shut it off the next month?
Don’t need the feature all the time just a couple occasions a year.

I've never done that. But theoretically, I think you might be able to subscribe January 1st, use the "on-demand" feature for the month, then unsubscribe. And in June (for example), resubscribe for a month.

The only caveat is that they might charge an additional fee for starting and stopping. Don't know of such, but..

I wouldn't assume anything with them, find out before hand. I have a few of their Reveal 3 pro cams and they as a company can be... frustrating. Lots of nickel and dime'n you, everything costs a little more. Recently had a cam die from water damage so I figured I'd cancel the plan it was on. I could do it, but it wasn't pro rated, the rest of the year would be a loss.

"Check in" on my cams just means it sends a picture every 12 hours. The "on demand" feature, is to request a picture whenever you want, but that's an extra $9 a month. The cam will take video, but it you want to see it on your phone, it's $5 for 50 videos. Want a "HD" version of a pic on your phone, an extra $5 per 50.(like I said nickel and dime you) And of course unless I request the video or HD photo minutes after getting notification of a new picture, the chances of getting it are low. Half an hour or more and I never get it. It took me 8 months to use up 50 videos because they so rarely come.

They have a new expensive cam with an expensive plan, that's supposed to stream video. But like anything with them, I'm dubious of how well it will work, and what other built in catches there are.

Could you get a new cam and have it continue the plan that you had or would you have to start a new plan?

Yes. Because the cams are 5 hours away from home, I didn't know when I'd be back that way, and I figured I'd be SOL on the dead cam, I went to a town and bought another one. I was able to swap that account to the new cam in the parking lot on the ap.
