Nothing like a good “mater samach” with fresh home grown tomatoes. Yum!

I agree, it is the best time of year. Thick sliced white bread, Duke's Mayo, bacon, and tomatoes… Now I am hungry.

We started a few weeks ago and in a few weeks a buddy will have a harvest.

What do think of my idea of using a good quality burger bun for tomato sandwiches? I like buns because they’re the right shape and the right size.

Serious about crackers

I had 2 tomato sammiches today. Delicious. Mayo, a pinch of salt and a lot of black pepper. Tried Duke's mayo (grew up with Helmann's in TX, and later Best Foods in WA & AK) as they just started carrying it at Fred Meyers up here in Alaska.....the hype was NOT overblown, it really made the sandwich. Added some fresh red onion. Maybe the perfect summer sandwich.

I’m good with it!

And THANK YOU for not being afraid of mayo. That’s a perfect amount there for that sandwich. I’m always having to go grab the mayo and add more to a sandwich when my wife makes it; she always just adds this thin little smear that’s almost like a whiff of mayo. Big Grin

I was a little boy and we had a garden. In the garden we grew the most beautiful tomatoes.

I would watch my Dad snatch one off the vine and take a big bite out of it.

I would usually puke.

I hated tomatoes. It was only when I got to be about 10 or so that I could put ketchup (catsup?) on a burger or hot dog.

Tomato soup was the only tomato product I could really enjoy.

Fast forward sixty some years and now I am 75. And sometime in the last few months I have had an epiphany.

I love me a big, red tomato-as a 'mater sammich, on a burger , with my eggs in the morning or about any way that I have found.

I've got no idea what happened, but I am loving them.

Oh, BTW, I prefer Miracle Whip over any mayo.
