My daughter wants a laptop for Christmas. She has a Huion Kamvas Pro 16 Graphic Drawing Tablet that she can use to create and draw, but I guess she needs a laptop to go with it. I have no idea if I can get away with a basic Windows machine for $499, or if I need to get her a Mac. The main purpose will be creativity.

If it matters, the whole family has iPhones and I have a MacBook Pro. Now, I would rather not spend $1,200 on a computer for her as a $500 Windows machine is much more appealing, but if I need to, I suppose I can.

My daughter is 14 and the school was proclaiming the greatness of the chromebook. They were going to issue one to every student so we bought her one instead. She also really wanted a laptop. The reality is she still uses her iPhone 99% of the time. I would say if your daughter has a specific need/desire/interest that can only really be filled by a Mac then that may be the best option for y’all. Really depends on what your kid wants to do. The chromebooks are cheap but the quality and specs are all over the place so do your homework if you go that route.

While I will not pretend to know what will actually work for you, I do know my Macs have NEVER disappointed me. Nor has price ever irked me. Buy once, cry once holds true.

Get her a Mac. I got one for my daughter about that age because she was interested in graphic design. It will synch well with everything else you have.

I think A new MacBook Air starts at $899 if you qualify for a student discount.

How old is yours?
Maybe hand down yours to her and buy a new one for yourself Big Grin

Look here for a refurbished computer from Apple. Indistinguishable from a new retail one, other than a faint "refurbished" marking on the box. Same Apple warranty as a new retail unit.

Good idea, but I bought it in June.

I will check into the student discount though. I forgot about that.
