Slowly on the hunt for a donor vehicle for a planned Locost project. Craigslist & FB Mkt haven't turned up much & a browse of Copart shows some decent options in the 'runs & drives' category, at surprisingly low prices.

Can anyone register & bid on Copart? Or is it restricted to dealers/shops?

Are the values shown the actual price, or do they have a reserve like other auctions?

Ideally I'm on the hunt for a 99-00 Miata to rip apart.

It depends on the State where the vehicle is located. Some allow anyone to bid... some you will need a dealer to bid for you.

As for reserves it depends on the seller. Some are pure sale meaning no reserves.

"Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible."

There is a Copart near me. Very complicated for a person to try using, from what I learned years ago. More oriented for salvage dealers, body shops.

I was interested in a horse trailer they had to haul my dogs in. Gave up after learning all the nuances.

There is a rather large yard only a couple miles from my office. May have to do some research & maybe call and inquire.

Copart involves police who donate their time for charity. Simply pay the fee, dip an officer in your choice of paint, and drop them on the canvas. The more cops, the fancier the design. You get something great to hang on your wall and you're contributing to a better world. It's a lot of fun, and a great service for stray dogs that need orthodontia.

Or did you mean something else?

You can find everything you need on the Copart website.

Thanks, a bit more digging & looks like no licensing needed in TX for salvage vehicles & pure sale is high bid wins.

Might be a lot easier than hunting CL & FB.

A friend of mine owns a body shop. He was registered with Copart and bought a lot of vehicles through them. I would browse the web site and find vehicles I wanted him to bid on. I would give him a budget and allow him to use his own judgement as he knew much more about vehicles than I did.

My daily driver now is a 2016 Expedition Limited XL 4wd. Had been rear ended in Texas and totaled with just over 5K miles on it. Wasn't hardly a year old when I got it. He did the repairs and I got about half the cost of the book price invested in it.

If I recall you had to have a dealers license to register with Copart. To bid on vehicles at least.

Depends on the state, from what I read yesterday.
TX does not for salvage vehicles, I believe. Need to look into it more today.
