flashguyTreating "God Bless America" as Though It's the National Anthem?

Yes, it is. Many persons think it should be the National Anthem. One reason we stand in honor of The Star-Spangled Banner is that it's in 3/4 time and can't be marched to (as other countries do to their Anthems). I think everyone should also know the words to the 2nd stanza:
Oh, thus be it ever
When Freemen shall stand
Between their loved homes
and the war's delsolation.
Blest with victory and peoce
May the Heav'n-rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made
And preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must,
When our cause it is just,
And this be our motto:
In God is our trust.
And the star-spangled banner
In triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free
And the home of the brave.
(Some say it's the 4th verse--I learned it as the 2nd verse. Some say it's too military. Fie on them.)

Correct. Written in 1908, by a couple of guys, neither of whom had been to a pro baseball game prior to writing the song.
