We use a Roku streaming stick on a small tv in the kitchen. The tv isn't on all the time. With a couple days of bad storms, we turned off the main tv what with all the lightning. So the kitchen tv saw a lot of use. Warnings showed up on the screen, the Roku was overheating. I checked the Roku website, it was recommended to disconnect the stick's power cable for several minutes to let it cool off. If the overheating continues, don't use the stick Roku advises. WTF? Even with the stick removed from the tv, the stick is warm (too warm?). Is that a feature or a bug? Get a new stick? Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

how hot is the ambient temp of the room it's in? If it were me, I'd take a small USB powered fan and run some air past it to see if that solves it. USB powered fans are like $8 or less if you look around. .

The fix for this is to get an extender cable, I think Roku will supply you one for free if you ask them or you can just find one on Amazon. Basically, it’s a small HDMI dongle that lets the stick hang away from the port on the back of the TV in the open air like 8 to 12 inches. That way it’s not sitting up against a warm TV and overheating. My father-in-law had this exact issue and when he did that it all went away.

No air flow problem around the tv. I disconnected the Roku stick and just let it hang by the power cable, still pretty warm. I don't know how that temp compares to when the stick is connected and the tv on but, yeah, still pretty warm. The fact that Roku addresses the issue on their website would seem to show it's a known problem. Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

They have always gotten warm. Try the extender cable and let it hang, it’s just that them running warm up against the warm back of a TV is too much.

Always try the cheapest fix first. Have you tried plugging it into a different TV set just to see if the original TV HDMI is not the source of the problem? 0-0 "OP is a troll" - Flashlightboy, 12/18/20

I don't use my Roku stick anymore. But I remember having this problem. I got sent a longer cable, I used it and the problem was fixed. I second PAsig's fix. "It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

I'll do that, thanks guys. As mentioned, the tv saw a lot of duty during a couple long days of storms, otherwise it's on just now and then. Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.
