Does anyone have or had a Chevy Equinox? I am in the market for a daily driver with decent gas mileage with 4x4 or AWD. I am trying to save the miles and gas consumption on my guzzling 2001 Chevy2500HD Crew Long box. Not ready to dump 45k into a newer truck! I have been looking at others that are somewhat similar to the Equinox, such as Toyota RAV4, Honda CRV, Nissan Rogue, Ford Escape, GMC Terrain,and Subaru Crossteks. The problem is, we are a 150 miles from a foreign dealer if something should go wrong. We have a GMC, Chevy, Buick, Ford, and Chrystler/Dodge locally. We have a base model 2017 CR-V, AWD. It gets about 28-29 mpg average, cost was $25k off the lot. No complaints so far, 1st Honda besides cycles. | |||

My wife has a 2017 with the v6. We bought it new. No problems, she loves it. She averages 21mpg. The 4 cylinder models get better mileage but suffer in the acceleration category. 4 cylinder models 21 city 31 hwy. 6 cylinder 17 city 24 hwy. According to www.fueleconomy.gov. Hope this helps | |||

The grandparents have a 2007 (1st generation) and it is a complete piece of crap. Cheap interior horribly uncomfortable seats, awful turning radius. Had a 2013 for a company car for a bit it was a bit better than the 2007 the AC went out twice in two years along with some other stuff and electronics issues that should have never gone wrong that early but all covered by warranty. Of those two offerings I certainly would not buy one. I see they are putting a diesel in them now and that is a bit intriguing but still doubt I would ever buy one. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. Our work uses the Equinox as a fleet vehicle and they run the hell out of them. About 120K in 3 years with no issues I've seen. Within a few months I'll be getting one (job) and will know first hand. | |||

The wife is on her third Terrain lease. All have been 4 cyl. and AWD. Mileage averages mid-20's with more city driving than highway. You won't beat any Hellcats in a drag race but acceleration is acceptable and they go thru 12" of snow like it isn't even there. All have been trouble free. The lease prices have been very favorable, too. | |||

We bought my wife a 2014 Equinox last summer. She loves it. We took it on a rapid trip. I liked it well enough. Careful with trim options. E.g.: There was a 2015 on the lot that was nicer in other ways, but the 2014 had much nicer seats, which was apparent the moment you sat in each. "America is at that awkward stage. We have a 2010 we bought used. It has the four cylinder in it. Where to begin. It has 155,000 miles on it. Oil consumption is horrible. 3-4 quarts between oil changes. We had to change the timing chain and guides. Cam position sensors. Crank position sensor and a starter when it was swapped due to breaking an ear off of it. The starter needs to be removed to get to the crank sensor. The seats are not comfortable for me. I am 6' 165#. The windshield wiper arms strip easily. The wiper transmission uses plastic bushings that wear out and need to be replaced. I swapped ours out twice and the third time had to buy a new transmission and motor as it is not a seperate service item. Supposedly the 6 cylinders are better maintenance wise. I don't know first hand though. Do a Google search and you will see plenty of timing chain complaints as well as other issues people are having. I would look for something else if I were you. NOW, before everyone says that everything we replaced was due to be replaced anyway for mileage, you are correct. But, considering I have 225,000 miles on my F250, I have not had the issues this car has had in fewer miles. | |||

My wife has had a couple through work and she loves them. That said, earlier versions with the 4 cylinder engine were good on gas but dogs. She had a 15 and got a 16 this year, both 6 cylinder and with the Navigation. Both cars were bought as low mileage used cars with a warranty. Both had the radio/Nav system replaced cause it would go dark or reboot on its own. The 15 had a bit of over acceleration before the speed would pick up. Kinda like the quadrabog carburetor of the 70's era. If you are looking at a new model, we've heard the 1.5l turbo has the poser of the 6 cylinder so the 4 may be fine now. Like above, my wife said the seats changed in the 18 models and not as comfy as the 16. I don't know cause I didn't sit in a new model. I have a 2012 model all wheel drive 4cycle. I have no complaints. I follow the maintenance schedule with out problems. I would buy another. We don't get much snow here but the recent snow fall was 6-7 inch range in the foot hills of NC. Handles snow with no problem. | |||

I have a 2012 4cyl Fwd LTZ. Surprising legroom front and back. Has been very reliable. Feul milage is good. Oil consumption should be criminal. No rear AC. Front vents are poorly placed. Steering wheel controls aren't intuitive. The only DC outlet that will charge when vehicle is parked is the one in the rear storage (inexcusable). Rear seat slides 6" F2B for more leg room or more storage. Rear storage capacity leaves much to be desired. I have a 2005 Equinox that I bought used from a co-worker when the previous owner died (his mother). Is only FWD and has the V6. Completely basic vehicle without any options like even cruise control. Only thing I have had to fix is the front CV axles which were quite easy to swap out (relative to CV axles in general, as I didn't have to take apart the entire front suspension). Been very reliable for the last two year with about 110K on it now. Interior is horrible cheap plastic everywhere, however I will give the cheap feeling plastic credit in that nothing creaks, rattles, or buzzes even after 8 years. Wouldn't be my first choice to buy new, but I got such a good deal on it, and it has been trouble free (barring the CV axles which is a wear item on all FWD vehicles). Mileage aint great with the V6, but decent enough. | |||

We are now leasing the 2018 Equinox .. We have had 4 Honda CR-Vs. My wife Loves the Equinox, it has more room gets better mileage. And is loaded with safety features not found on the CR-V. I rented one for a work trip to Nashville one time. I may have been a bit prejudiced from the start, since I asked for a full-size SUV and the rental company gave me that cracker-box POS and insisted it was a "full-size SUV." I own a Suburban. An equinox is nowhere near a full-size anything. The example we got was brand new with only a few thousand miles on it, and it was a POS. No acceleration, bad ride quality,and some phantom thumping noise from the back that over 5 days and 1200 miles we never did figure out the source of. My buddy owns the AWD Pontiac version. His has been a horrible headache. The fuel pump went out, and because of the design of the tank, it requires a special fuel pump with two sumps (the tank wraps around the drive shaft and exhaust, so it has two different "valleys"). We had to drop the drive shaft and the exhaust to get the tank down to install the $700 (yeah, you heard that right...$700 just for the part!) fuel pump. He's had other issues with it as well, but that was the one that soured me the most. My personal recommendation would be to do yourself a favor and avoid the whole unibody wannabe suv market segment altogether, but if you must have one at least avoid the Equinox. My BIL has a CR-V, and while I still would never give up my Suburban or my Silverado for one, it's worlds better than the Equinox. | |||

I think the 2018s got smaller. I have two inlaws with the 2017 model each. They like them well enough but neither has AWD or over 20k miles. Leather seems to be a highly recommended upgrade. | |||

Neighbor has a 2015. After 38k miles, the radio would cut on a full volume and startle them almost off the road. There understanding is there have been a number of reported issues with the integrated entertainment/ HVAC cluster. Good luck ______________________________________________ Life is short.
