Who could have seen this coming?

A coffee shop in Toronto called "The Anarchist" that describes itself as "an anti-capitalist cafe, shop and radical community space on stolen land" is closing its doors after just one year in business. You just hate to see it.

link to announcement

In the commie cafe's full announcement on their website, in which they boast of not serving police officers or members of the military, the owner blames "the lack of generational wealth/seed capital from ethically bankrupt sources" for the shop going belly-up. LOL.

The Anarchist used a "pay what you can" pricing strategy for coffee, because communism or something, and I guess it didn't work out too well.

The full statement from the owner is truly something to behold. I will bless you with it below, edited for language:

It's been an amazing experience, connecting with so many great community members, sparking desperately needed debate, raising the blood pressure of Conservatives (that includes you, "anarcho-capitalists" and "Libertarians"), fulfilling the dream of most service workers by not having to tolerate the presence of professional class-traitors (pigs and military), and experimenting with living and working in ways that don't enthusiastically embrace the pure misanthropy of Capitalism. Unfortunately, the lack of generational wealth/seed capital from ethically bankrupt sources left me unable to weather the quiet winter season, or to grow in the ways needed to be sustainable longer-term.
...

The Anarchist has been a huge success in every way I hoped, and has given me so much inspiration and education that I plan to put to use in future projects. Keep an eye on the instagram page to see what I end up doing next! F--- the rich. F--- the police. F--- the state. F--- the colonial death camp we call "Canada". Solidarity Gabriel a.k.a The Anarchist

Emphasis theirs.

I swear the left is becoming a parody of itself...

There's a lovely video of the place too (language warning):

Just amazing stuff. I had to share this inspirational story with you.

What? Utopia failed? Say it’s not so!

Gotta love these lines: Unfortunately, the lack of generational wealth/seed capital from ethically bankrupt sources left me unable to weather the quiet winter season, or to grow in the ways needed to be sustainable longer-term.

So where do they think “generational wealth” or “seed capital” come from? Thin air? Guess Capitalism is ok when you’re feeding idealists with its profits.

Here’s another one: The Anarchist has been a huge success in every way I hoped, and has given me so much inspiration and education that I plan to put to use in future projects

If that’s a success, in business for less than a year I’d love to see what he or she considers an abject failure.

I'm more shocked that it even lasted a year. Someone lost some major $ funding this one.

“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.” - Margaret Thatcher

There are a couple of shoe shine booths in the Denver airport that adhere to this business model. Fortunately, they provide a FANTASTIC service; best shoe shine I've EVER gotten. Through the years, I believe the average customer has been VERY generous with the "pay what you feel" policy with them. I know I have been, as I've spotted them a $20 at times. Yes...they're THAT good!!!

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

I would have thought they'd be financially successful... when pigs fly out their asses.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Panera opened five Cafes pay what you can and kept them open for nine years.

When they closed the last one down, they said they were covering 85% of their costs.

So instead of making money, it was losing 15% a year.

They only have 2100 other stores to write the loss off against.

Income is over two billion a year and they still shut it down.

Do you think anyone learned anything from this train wreck? Maybe that the citizens were not compelled to give their hard earned money to finance the project.

Communism is a wonderful idea.

On paper.

It just doesn't work when you get actual people involved.

The thing that gets me with these commie pricks is they spout about how much they hate capitalism and love communism yet won’t leave for a communist paradise and enjoy all the benefits of capitalism.

Some people just need to be curb stomped.

I'm shocked, shocked I say.

I think there was one of those Paneras here in Boston.

It met the same fate, in the bluest of blue areas.

Socialism doesn't work, because people are human, and the people who want it so fucking bad, want it because they are lazy and worthless. Or, well off deluded and entitled.

Just like all the billionaires who keep saying "tax me" will never simply give it away... puzzling eh?

Arc.

At least they're consistent: When communism doesn't work, it's never communism's fault, it's the fault of capitalists.
