I know some of the fine gentleman and women on the forum would appreciate images of a fine ship.
35 years ago ... departing Sydney Harbour after celebrating the Royal Australian Navy’s 75th.
I remember watching her sail out through the heads. Big!
Arrival The mast you see at the ship's starboard, is the H.M.A.S. Sydney (I) Memorial Mast, located on Bradley's Head.
Departing

I did visit again years later ... to watch two US Navy enlisted, re-enlisting on the surrender deck. Not sure if I should call it that, but many would know the location.

I reenlisted on her Aft deck two years ago. Reenlist again on the 29th.
Was able to see some pretty cool stuff volunteering to help restoration projects when I had the time.
The stories of her main deck guns and hearing the power the have will give you goose bumps no matter how many times take the tour.
10 years to retirement! Just waiting!

I have a shot of her somewhere in port that my grandfather took many years ago. Don't know where she was tied up. That is one big battle wagon. Thanks for sharing.

I visited her as a kid when she was mothballed up in Puget Sound. Amazing. We should keep one running at all times just because we can.

Yup, been aboard her many times when she was at the ship yard in Bremerton. What a battle ship.

Somewhere, my dad has a picture he took between '78 and '82, which has two American aircraft carriers parked next to each other in Subic bay. Wish he could find it.

Utterly mind-blowing machine, and, like many another machine that does its job perfectly, beautiful to look at - those graceful lines!!!!
When I was about 11 or 12 I had a large plastic model of Missouri - it even had little wheels so you could push it along the floor. It was, in fact, a very fine model, and had all the main dimensions and details of the armament moulded into the underneath. I recall pacing out the length in our street, and being totally amazed by it.
I was also a witness to the passing of the last Royal Navy battleship - HMS Vanguard. We were on a day trip to Portsmouth when I saw her pass by in the distance - she was being towed away for scrapping.

We had a couple of 16 inch shells here where I work. They were going to be used for decorations in front of office buildings. Just lying where they where was intimidating and was thinking I glad never to be on the receiving end. I have yet to be on her sister the New Jersey.
