I got an AW SE first for my wife, then she had a first episode of AF. It WAS picked up by the SE; but I got her an AW 9 for Christmas because it has the built-in ECG. Much quicker and easier to use than a Kardia Mobile. The Kardia was very helpful in documenting the AF, but the Apple Watch is the current best technology for AF detection that can be done without a doctor’s orders.

Wife has the Apple, I have the Fitbit Sense 2.

Both have been used to confirm my Afib.

I also like everything else it monitors. I keeps me honest.

If you have AFib they are priceless.

The health thing is completely worth it.

Skip the fitbit stuff.

Say HR is too high.

It will monitor your heart rate and if you have a heart problem that raises your heart rate it can alert you. It does not monitor or detect everything with your heart.

I think it can be a good thing to wear but understand its limits. It will also monitor your PO2 and you can take a reading of anything.

Fall detection can be good and it will ask you if you want it to call for help if you fall.

Do expect to charge it every day but they charge quickly.

Comet said it well. Understand what it does well and also its limitations - the EKG is single lead. I think theyre best ability is fitness tracking and extending the functions you have from your iPhone (calling someone, texting, app notifications, etc.)

Maybe ask your doc about what would be best tool for your scenario.

I have a series 7 AW and agree with everything stated about it. Not the sexiest thing to wear on your wrist but I consider it the best piece of tech you can own and make daily use of. They are very intuitive to learn and are indispensable.

Buy with confidence. If you can get a new Ultra 2 with the blood oxygen system working, get that model. Do not hesitate. If you have heart problems, as I do, get the watch.

I have PACs which can be misconstrued as AFIB on my Apple Watch and Cardiamobile. Even 12 lead EKGs can flag as AFIB until the cardiologist reads the tape and can differentiate

So if anyone has PACs or PVCs, be aware.

Like saying an iPhone is nothing more than a Teletype equivalent. Other than size and being able to display time, the CCW and AW are not in the same ballpark. I've had a 3 a 6 and now an Ultra2. I hesitated on the Ultra because of its size, but quickly warmed up to it when I saw how easy it was to read the screen. It's "wearable technology" not a fashion statement.

I got one for the health benefits. I had a Fitbit for years, and I find that I get way more steps in when I'm prodded to get up and move. Plus it will notify me if I have AFIB episodes or irregular heartbeat. And at my age, I'm getting to where the fall detection is nice to have, especially when I'm out and about by myself hiking or hunting.

Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago.

Remember this too: if you are in an area where there is NO cell phone service, you can text for help via SOS satellite phone using the new Apple Watches and iPhones.

If I thought for a moment that any one would miss me,
In the event of a major health malfunction, I'd be investing in one .

I've seen and done 75 % of what I wanted to.

But unless I hit the Powerball tonight , I think I am ready to get gone.

Thank you everyone for the responses. I ended up getting a series 9 yesterday. Friday evening when I went to bed was somewhat unpleasant as I was having numerous episodes that I could not catch on my Kardia Mobile. Must have gotten up 10 times in an hour and a half.
Haven't had any issues since Friday night late.
And my EP's office never did call me back. I have an appt. with them Tuesday and you can bet they will hear about that. And I have an appt. with my cardiologist the following week.
I'm pretty sure it was just episodes of PVCs. Never had any history of Afib.
Thanks again everyone.

I recently got one for health reasons as well. Started noticing very high heart rate when lightly jogging. Been a runner my whole life and it didn’t make sense that I was hitting max heart rate after jogging a mile even though I wasn’t even breathing heavy. Went to cardiologist and he recommended I get a kardia mobile or an Apple Watch to start checking myself. I also thought it was a good idea to always be connected when I’m out on a jog (got the cell version). So far I love the watch and other features like Apple wallet, and have stopped wearing all my other watches.

My brother and I (early 40s) both started having heart irregularities around the COVID/vaccine time frame. He ended up being diagnosed with AFIB and has regular episodes. So far, I’ve just got the high heart rate when running. Hopefully it doesn’t turn into AFIB.

My wife utilizes her apple watch daily to monitor heart rate and loves the feature giving her freedom to not have the phone on her hip around the house. Myself, I only prefer my G-shocks so it is just preference IMO.

For anyone in the android world (and Apple) I have a Garmin Epic Pro that has a single lead ECG. There are a few other Garmin models that have it. The way I have my screen set I can go 15 days on one charge. Also does Pulse Ox and Heart Rate and GPS tracks my hikes and bike rides.

I have a few SIGs.
