Not sure if these have been posted but it appears that singing of the Star Spangled Banner at memorials is now a thing. Two that I like

I don't know. If some person just started singing around me like that, I would be put off and probably keep my hand on my wallet. I would also be thinking "Attention Whore". Maybe that reflects poorly on me but that's how I would react.

^^^ Did you watch to the end? At first it did seem awkward to me, but by the end the crowd reaction won me over, especially in the first video. (It would have been better without the commentary.)

Went to a entry level MMA Fight a while ago. It's at a local casino. They go to do the anthem before the fight and the sound system fails. Spontaneously the crowd began singing it without any music. Was pretty cool. IMO.

Watched Montreal and Boston tonight in French. Young, beautiful lady singing the American national anthem did a wonderful job and guess what...not one player kneeling, sitting, fist in the air, or whatever other male bovine excrement these idiots come up with. LOVE the NHL!

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

Just shows how different our reactions can be.

I got misty and I would have given her a big hug and thanked her if I was there.

Me too! I really like how in both videos towards the end of the song the crowd gets quiet almost in reverence.

If you can sing it, I don't mind if you do. It's free entertainment and enjoyment for me.

"It did not really matter what we expected from life, but rather what life expected from us. We needed to stop asking about the meaning of life, and instead to think of ourselves as those who were being questioned by life – daily and hourly. Our answer must consist not in talk and meditation, but in right action and in right conduct. Life ultimately means taking the responsibility to find the right answer to its problems and to fulfill the tasks which it constantly sets for each individual." Viktor Frankl, Man's Search for Meaning, 1946.

Several years ago, I was at Bethany Beach, Delaware on July 4th watching the fireworks show out over the ocean.

After it ended, the crowd was making it's way back towards the street and some of them spontaneously started singing the Star Spangled Banner. Most of the thousands of people there joined in, and by the end of the song it was as if everyone in sight was united for those few moments. It was a very moving event, and one of the most memorable moments of my life.

Here's to the sunny slopes of long ago.
