As Extraordinary as Everyone Else
| Timely topic... I was talking to my excavator on one of our projects and commenting on his new CAT D6K. He told me that the Cat dealer included the first few oil changes in the deal and he had them come out to do a field service on that and two other pieces he had on a big job he was doing. The next day one of his sons gets in the dozer and starts it up and proceeds to drive forward. For some strange reason he looks back and sees the entire oil pan sitting on the he ground full of oil... To say he was pissed was an understatement...do you have any idea what a new D6 costs these days???

| Is this dealership in the Quad Cities area by any chance? We use the one on the IL side and have had no issues. |

| Modern oils are amazing even in residual quantities. I've seen race motors last laps with no oil before they seize at full throttle. I would have no real worries about 30 seconds there is a lot of oil in the system

| To echo others modern lubricants aren't your pappy's lubes. Shit I wouldn't stress a damn thing if it ran for 5 minutes with no load. Modern lubes are that good.
For ME: DA/SA=Sig 9mm or HK P30 LEM 9 Striker fired= Glock 9mm If it's a .45= 1911 Suppressed= HK in .45 I like anything in 10mm

Son needs some re-training, too. NEVER start a tractor or a Cat without first checking the oil. NEVER.
Thanks,

I told him mistakes happen, you guys owned up to it (I can say other dealerships would not), you compensated me for my extra time, if you stand behind it in writing I will be satisfied.
It sounds like they are being pretty stand up about the whole thing so if it were me I would wait for the letter BUT if it doesn't show or they change their tune I would reach out to American Honda as they will step in in certain cases and make the dealer do the right thing |

| Bad news - your dealership is hiring schmucks.
Good news - its a Honda engine and you were probably a long ways away from doing any damage. |

| I bought a used Chevy pickup with about 80,000 miles on it that had a new engine in it. Got home and looking through the console I found a receipt from a service ticket from just a few (literally) miles on it before I bought it. Apparently the dealer forgot the oil plug and roasted the engine at which point they became the proud owners of a new used chevy pickup. I'll bet that guy was pissed. I hope they gave him a good deal on the new one.

| I'm sure modern lubricants are wonderful. I would not want my car engine running without oil for any seconds. I wouldn't use that shop again. |

I have no interest in the 2018 from looks or engine choices. |

| I thought that most late model cars would shut the engine down if they lost oil pressure. I'm sure that I've seen that on some schematics. ? |

No, for safety reasons..... losing power brakes and steering......they won't....but should send a visual alarm and possibly audible. |
