Sen. Kennedy Considers Run for Louisiana Governor

Sen. John Kennedy (R., La.) said Monday that he is preparing to announce soon whether he will run for Louisiana governor next year.

The state's top position will be up for grabs after Democrat John Bel Edwards, who has served as governor since 2016, finishes his current term. The state limits governorships to two four-year terms.

“Over the last year, Louisianians have asked me time and time again to come home to serve as governor during these difficult times,” he said in a statement.

Mr. Kennedy, 71, was elected to the U.S. Senate in November 2016. Prior to that, he served as the state’s treasurer and as a lawyer.

Several other Republicans are considering the race, including the state’s other U.S. senator: Bill Cassidy. The state’s top lawyer, Jeff Landry, announced his campaign for governor last month.

Mr. Kennedy’s announcement makes him the latest Republican in the U.S. Senate who is eyeing the exits. Sen. Ben Sasse of Nebraska, who was first elected in 2014, was chosen by the University of Florida’s board of trustees as the school’s next president.

Mr. Sasse has not formally resigned his post, and it’s unlikely that the political party makeup of the Senate would change if he were to do so. It’s expected that Nebraska Gov. Pete Ricketts, a Republican, would find another GOP representative to take his place until the state holds a special election in November 2024.

Home is where the power lies, with a strong team, governor, state congress, you can get things done, and you can give DC the finger...

DeSantis is proof as is TX Gov Abbott.

He will have to overcome the Libtards of Baton Rouge, Shreveport, New Orleans, and a few other Demotarded-held bastions of The Pelican State.

"Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

He's a hell of force in the Senate, would hate to loose his presence there, as he's been a bulwark against a lot of stupid though the halls of Congress.

I’m just amazed a LA governor is leaving office, after filling his term, rather than in handcuffs. Big Grin
