Every washer & dryer we've owned (WHIRLPOOL, MAYTAG, SAMSUNG) with high tech electronic mother boards have been VERY costly once the warranty runs out. So we bought the SPEED QUEEN Classic washer and dryer based on the recommendation of our long time repair tech. He told us he seldom gets a service call on the Classic unless it's a laundry mat. Good to hear they offer the Classic line again.

Picked out a pretty high end GE washer and dryer on a deep store opening discount. So much so that I picked up the 10-year all inclusive warranty for the set from Bray and Scarff, who do all of their own service. And if warranty not used in 5 years, get 100% back (about $350) as a store credit. Free delivery. I liked the Speed Queen but NOT the limited capacity. 3.2 cubic feet washer is like the industry standard from 2010. The new washer with agitator will be 4.6 cubic feet and dryer much larger too. Could not pass it up with the zero BS warranty. Thanks all for posting.

We just bought an Electrolux front loading washer. It has the highest consumer reports rating, a 15 min wash cycle, steam function, excellent stain removal. Large drum for bedding. Runs about $1000 if not on sale. Home Depot and Lowes carry it. We have used it for a few weeks now and it exceeded our expectations. Washer link

If your dryer still spins but has no heat - it's probably easy to fix. I just spent 20 bucks replacing my 15 year old Kenmore dryer's heating element. Got an LG WM3900HWA washer recently - it's been top notch so far. -------------------- I like Sigs and HK's, and maybe Glocks

My cousin repairs them for a living, he has recommended Whirlpool/ Maytag to me. My current Whirlpools are 7 years old and doing 2 households since our lakehouse laundry comes here. Wish you a good choice!! _________________________________________________ "Once abolish the God, and the Government becomes the God." --- G.K. Chesterton

I hope that stays true, and that LG has improved. I've had terrible experiences with LG and Samsung appliances, and will never buy either one again. I'll stick to their phones and TVs. I put a deposit down today on a Speed Queen TC5 washer and DC5 dryer, and a Whirlpool WRF555SDFZ fridge. They'll be delivered, installed, and paid for the day after closing on the new house.

We've had two different sets of LG washer/dryers over the last 15 years. They work well and get good reviews in general, but I have two things to point out that may or may not be helpful: (1) The washers seem to have ridiculously fast closing solenoids that cause water hammer like I've never seen before. Even with water hammer arrestors installed, I cringe every time I'm in the basement and can hear it shut on and off. (2) Not sure if this is an LG thing, but the vibration from the washer spinning during the spin cycles is pretty violent if your laundry room is on the second floor. Are the issues above the same for other brands?

LG and Samsung haven’t improved. They still have huge part shortages because their appliances are always breaking. Congrats on the new appliances. ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

Go back to lowes and see if you can still buy the extended warranties for them or return them!

No, but have had friends with them and they had bad experiences with them, long service wait times due to parts being out of stock, and several repairs.

I rarely if ever use any of the fancy settings on modern washers and dryers. Tap cold, short cycle for everything. Best washer/dryer set we ever had was an off-brand pair somebody sold us for $50, they were moving and needed them gone. I think the washer had 5 settings, but again I only used one. When the fancy front loading Samsung washer that came with the current house bit the dust (in fairness it was 10 years old) I bought the least expensive name brand washer I could find. A whirlpool on sale, about $400. To replace with an equivalent to what we had, $1200ish to no purpose. When the dryer finally goes, I’ll do the same. "I am a Soldier. If you're somewhat handy, these may be easy and inexpensive fixes. The dryer may just need a new igniter.

Yes, we have both washer and dryer. I took an unconventional approach. I called 5 separate repair firms and asked what the easiest was to work on, what was built the best, and what they saw the least, and Maytag was either 1 or 2 from each place I called. We have had them for 4+ years and they have been bulletproof so far, and far cheaper than speedqueen.

I believe that is no longer the case. From what I found, the SQ Classics retail for slightly over $1k (~$1029). The Maytag Commercials now retail for slightly under $1k (~$949). And I just bought my SQ Classics on a slight markdown for $964 each, so about the same as the Maytag Commercials. The thing that swayed me was that the SQ's drum sits on a solid foundation, while the Maytag's drum is suspended. But the Maytag does has a slight advantage in capacity.

Daaaaym. I paid $649 in October 2016 for the washer, and $699 for the dryer in January 2017. The speedqueen was in excess of $850 for the washer and $800 for the dryer.

Don’t worry, those Maytag “commercials” aren’t built as well as the SQ classics either. ——————————————— The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Psalm 14:1

I do find it interesting that Speed Queen seems to be trying hard to to push people towards their markedly inferior TR lineup. Currently, they're offering a $200 mail in rebate on their washer/dryer sets, but it's only good on the TR line. They've also priced the TR line below the TCs. And their TC line only has a 3 year warranty, despite being more robust, which I surmise may be another means to drive people towards their TR lineup with their 5/7 year warranties. Seems odd that the company that made their stellar reputation over many years with one particular style of washer would discontinue it, then grudgingly bring it back while actively attempting to push customers towards an inferior product. The TR line may have a larger profit margin, and/or they may have some new management.
