You sure identified part of the rising cost Jim-

Due to the extra money for unemployment the plants are short production workers bigtime. They can't run all their lines and the lines they can run are being manned with workers who are working seven (7) days a week.

Point is the labor costs are through the roof right now and there is less product being produced.

Pretty much everything is going up in price, the supply chains are stressed further up the chain. Just heard resins, aluminum and other materials common in making backpacking and camping tents are backed-up with 400+ day lead times. Eek

If you're thinking of purchasing any camping gear for this year, like tents and sleeping bags...get'em now, as they're going to be in very short supply and relief won't be coming anytime soon.

Looks to me like the prices have been going down? I bought some last night because the price was lower than the last few trips to the store.

I don't raise hogs, but I do cattle, and I can tell you that we get whatever buyers are willing to pay at auction. Doesn't matter how much diesel goes up to run tractors for hay, doesn't matter what feed prices are, we get as much as the buyers will pay. There ain't no raising our prices because our operating costs went up. The only ones making out are the meat packing plants.

We can expect a lot of that from nothing being produced for a year+ and the government handing out checks for nothing.

Ammo, food, used cars, lumber, computers/components, everything is going up. Probably the only exception will be your salary.

Inflation is quickly canceling out that $15.00 per hour wage some are getting.

And why should that surprise anyone?

Being in the meat industry personally, I had a feeling it was coming.
I have 2 meat brokers I work with for ordering and after a phone call with both yesterday, it's crazy right now.
Prices normally go up this time of year because people are cooking out more but this is different.
The big meat/kill plants are short on labor because everyone is hiring and raising their wages. It's hard to compete sometimes. I personally gave every employee I have a $3 per hour increase to try to hang on to them. Yes, there's still people collecting state unemployment plus federal assistance but I've seen a good portion just leave to go get another job somewhere else.

I'd rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I'm not.

Our state has wisely opted out of the federal assistance program.
