I wish I could dance
I don't have a rhythmic bone in my body but I wish I could dance like this.

I did some stage dancing in my day. Performance dancing is a rush. Those days are long gone for me now, but do remember….

I wish I could dance well. My wife said young boys should take dance lessons because it'll pay dividends when they're teenage and older and interested in meeting girls.

No car is as much fun to drive, as any motorcycle is to ride.

In my younger days, I danced to country music (2-Step, West Coast Swing) for 20 years. I also did Ballroom dancing for 7 years. It clearly was the best dating tool I've ever had.

I did a lot of social dancing in my 50's and learned many dances to the point I considered myself pretty good, but at the same time, I always had a bit of self conscious feelings. I haven't done it in years now and have considered taking it back up.

One thing I could never do and regret is any kind of freestyle dance one might do out at a bar.

Hollywood back then was flush with talent. Today not so much. The end of musicals and the advent of special effects/cgi caused, in part, that change. How many knew Christopher Walken could dance so well? Or is it cgi?

I draw a strong distinction between choreography and spontaneous dancing giving much more props to the latter when done well. Coached/organized/practiced moves seem more about the athleticism than the music, and often lack the intimacy of two people moving together. Yes. some of the skills needed are similar, but they are far from the same. I wonder how many "stars" who are admired for their dancing abilities would do without their choreographers, coaches, and endless repetitions of the same staged moves?

Come on schmelby, Derek Jeter wished he could field a ball like Dave Winfield when he was a kid. Then, after 10’s of thousands of tries… you know the rest.
My wife and I used to go to the Winter Gala sponsored by a local college jazz radio station, The best dance couple there included a guy who was in his early 60s. His young granddaughter signed him up for swing dance lessons without his knowledge. He went to the lessons just to make his granddaughter happy. Man, two years later, this guy could do everything except flip his dance partner over his back.

^^^ architect, you hit on exactly what I think. I was able to dance social dancing because I learned the patterns. I danced almost all the latin dances, swing and some ballroom. But in all of them, I learned the patterns. Now when it comes to freestyle movement, you have to have a natural ability and lack of inhibition I believe. That is what I consider very difficult.

I have been told when I dance I have the rhythm of three white guys,I can't dance to save my life. I do enjoy watching the older "boogie woogie" type dancing like this- https://youtu.be/kejZuQCf8Kk. I have watched this duo for a while now and always enjoy their chemistry and natural gift to make it look easy and non-scripted.
