To be clear I'm not talking about a rub and tug.
I'm sure the remarks will be coming. No pun intended. A professional, over forty years in a truck took its toll on me. Sometimes my body aches. If it alleviates the pain for a while, I don't care what it costs.
I drove by a strip mall the other day, a little sign was out "Asian massage" I'll skip that. It just got me thinking about it. Any experience?

Heck yeah. Two lumbar fusions have damn near ruined me. I get a massage as often As I can afford it. Find a good one.. lots of reviews, yelp, etc. Don't just go to a Massage Envy type place. Do some research and find a pro. You’ll feel like a new man!

Thank you Mr. dry-fly. I googled and several places near me. I'll try to research
to see which I think might be the best. This will be out of pocket, if you don't mind
me asking, how much does it cost? And is it inappropriate to ask for a female?.
As Jerry Seinfeld said " Not that there's anything wrong with that" I would just be more comfortable
with a woman.

I used to have to get a cortisone shot in my spin every 3 months because of a car accident. Then work changed insurance and it was no longer covered. A friend recommended her masseuse friend. It was $75 for an hour of deep tissue massage. I gave her $100 per visit. I went about every other month. After about a year, I finally felt better that I no longer needed the deep tissue massages.

My next one is Monday. She is very thorough and finds knots I didn’t know I had. She’s booked up for the next 2 months.
(Doesn’t hurt that she is 35 yrs younger than me, cute and you could crack walnuts on her ass)
But it isn’t *that* type of massage, purely rehabilitation for my knotted up lower back.
My goal between the massages and current PT program is to swing a golf club again without paying for it for the next 5 days.

Yes, find a reputable place and book it. They will work out knots and such in your body and you will feel much better afterwards.

Prices can vary. Usually an hour massage is in the $80 range, then it’s appropriate to tip. No it’s not rude at all to ask for a female. Lots of massage therapists uses something called “hot stones”. They’ll use super smooth rocks that have been heated up and will rub these into tense areas. It’s wonderful.

That wouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't care if her name was Olga and she weighed 300 pounds, as long
as she helped with the pain. I'll find out. A hundred bucks for a visit, no problem.

They are definitely worth it. $75 for an hour seems to be about the going rate.

What also might help, some people don’t like them, is getting adjusted by a chiropractor.

My chiropractor has an in house masseuse.

There are different types, the Swedish is literally just a light rub of the skin,
What I get, when I go, is the sports massage, deep enough to work out knotted muscles.

Drink plenty of water the rest of the day to help flush out the lactic acid

Yea - Although it's been a while. Sports Massage for me when I get them. I'm not there for a nap. I'm there for you to fix the hard mileage I've put on my body. 20 years of martial arts between Aikido and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu plus working out.

I've got plenty that needs fixed.

I have a massage once a month. 1 1/2 hours for $118 plus any tip I want to leave.

I have been using the same masseuse for almost 10 years. The long relationship means she knows my problem areas. I pay Swedish massage prices for what is more of a Sports/Deep Tissue type massage.

At 54 after a lifetime of sports activity, I have a lot of issues. A bulging disk in my neck causes some nerve damage in my right arm and the muscles in my right should never loosen up. A torn Labrum in my left shoulder. Early arthritis in my right hip. The monthly massage helps a lot with these issues. My shoulders are so tight normally despite my stretching routine that I needed to switch from 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours because of how much time it takes for my shoulders to loosen up.

I get one or two a year. I'd suggest using Vagaro app/website to help find a professional service provider. It shouldn't be hard to locate one.

Massages can be great, but if you really want to have some knots and tightness worked out, find a practitioner who can do Graston scraping and therapeutic cupping and really knows how to work soft tissue. I have visited a ACE certified Athletic Trainer for years. They typically market themselves towards athletes but my experience with the few I've used has been wonderful. The local lady I use found the magic treatment for chronic knee pain I had after 3 visits trying various things. This was after I saw a physical therapist 3 times a week for nearly a year with little to no improvement. 3 weeks, 3 visits and the pain was gone. Now just a few preventative treatments on the knees specifically and I'm great.

They also do magic with acute issues... I've locked up my upper back a few times as I age. It massively affects range of motion and comes with significant pain that impacts daily life. A 1 hour appointment with them and within 36 hours the symptoms are DRASTICALLY improved. Typically the treatment involves graston scrapping, some percussion gun therapy, stretching, and finally the cupping.

To me, I do the massages for relaxation, the Trainers are for serious bodywork. Be prepared to be uncomfortable, though, the treatments can be very intense (read painful)... the tighter the muscles, the more it can hurt in the moment.

I go once every two months to have the knots and kinks worked on. Worth every penny when done by a professional.

The therapist understands muscles, ligaments, tendons and how a problem in one area triggers problems in others.

The one I see is so booked up that new clients can't get in until November.

Go and let a pro take care of you.

I have massage therapy authorized through the VA.

What I get is called myofascial release, which is breaking down the connective tissue between the muscles to allow for movement and pain reduction.

Before it was covered by the VA, it was $100 per visit and no tip expected.

I have also had a more traditional "Swedish massage" with oil and hot stone to relax, but it was far less therapeutic. The cost was $80 and the tip was $20.

All things said, the therapeutic was a better deal for the money. The effects last longer, and much like physical therapy, there is a end goal (increased flexibility, reduced pain).

I shall respect you until you open your mouth, from that point on, you must earn it yourself.

Yes. I had an L&I claim in Washington (workplace injury) and they approved 24 massages, three times a week for 8 weeks.

Seriously. I didn’t know what a gift I was given.
In today’s economy that’s about $3600 in massage before tip. I wish I could have that now as my back hurts a lot.

It did wonders for me. This wasn’t some whorehouse. It was a legit massage therapist that really understood the human anatomy and the muscle groups.

Go find one that’s legit. It’s worth its weight in gold.

I have the Black card at Planet Fitness, gives you unlimited access to the massage chairs and hydromassage beds for $25 a month. I would marry that hydromassage bed it feels so good. The chair really does a good job too. Also ex-truck driver so I feel your pain.
