I went with paint on my truck. Historically I get a new bumper every 3 years due to deer strikes. Paint failure isn’t much of a concern.

I think the last truck I owned with a chrome front bumper was a ‘99 Super Duty.

for me a personal truck (vice work truck) isn't a truck without chrome bumpers. i hope chrome will always be an option in the future.

Well, I got the new Ram 1500. It is black with chrome. I have never owned a Dodge (or Ram) or a black vehicle but I figured what the hell.

I really don't know why I went with the Ram besides I love the way it looks. It looks very modern yet the subtle curves give it a retro look.

I think the new Chevy trucks are just butt ugly, especially the interior and I've never been a Ford guy.

I'm glad I went with the chrome. Painted bumpers on a truck just looks silly to me.

As far as "thickness", the heaviest plate would be the copper, which is worked as much as required to obtain the best finish, (having the best steel prep as the first step). Copper step can be repeated until the surface is near flawless. Then the nickel plate is pretty much a set depth of covering, and then the chrome is also premeditation to provide the protection and luster.

The chrome is nearly (effectively) transparent but it does "color" (changes the tone) of the nickel that is otherwise a "warmer" hue.

Chrome plating is expensive, and many shops that do chrome use a "nickel/nickel/chrome" process with trivalent chrome.

These are not as durable, nor as appealing to the eye as copper/nickel/chrome using haxavalent.

And yes, Erin Brockovich and the EPA did more damage to chrome than all the salt dumped on the roads for all time.

Wow. Sigmonkey, you are a wealth of knowledge.
I never knew a thing about chrome before today.
