I've had a couple of threads on my basement finishing. One was a bitch about contractors and scheduling. The other was about flooring.
Well we decided on a solid core flooring to avoid issues with ceramic tile. The contractor is going to frame this weekend and then work after we come back from vacation.
But what I'm most excited about is the bar. We have a relative going to build the bar for us (he wasn't available for the entire project).
The best part is a custom bar top, epoxy river bar. We found a guy on Etsy and he is much more reasonable priced than anything we saw online. We visited him and saw his work. S
So the bar inspirations is the first picture. But we liked some lighter woods and he had a really neat spalted maple table he made. He was able to find us some spalted maple that is 9' long and 2" thick. That's what we want for the bar. The wood is being prepared now. The pics below the inspiration bar top are the raw wood after some sanding. It's gonna be epic. He is adding LED lights for us to light up the bar.
I'll post updates as the project progresses. There may be some delays for the bar and depending on the contractors other job.

That's a great looking board, can't wait to see it finished.

Maple is one of my favorite woods for furniture. Are you going with a live edge, or a machined/finished edge?

It will be just like the example in picture 1. The live edge goes on the inside and is covered with epoxy, but the edge is somewhat visible in the epoxy. The outer edge will be machined. We thought about a live edge on the outside but, while aesthetically pleasing, it isn't the best for leaning on with drinks.

Basement is coming along okay. I had to build the bar (not the top, as noted above). The contractor gave me an "I don't want the job" price. So I had to figure it out. Here are a few pictures of where we stand. Drywall is up, waiting on plaster next. The bar is placed about where it will go. They are going to run electric under the concrete to the bar. It only has about 3' to go under so not a big deal.
A few different angles.

Well we are moving right along. Plasterer has been here a couple days. He still has the hall and bathroom to finish. Floors and ceiling this week/weekend.
Oh and the bar top is getting done. He is pouring epoxy river this week. Here is an early pic of one of the boards. We did ask him to go a bit darker on the stain.

A few more pictures.
The bar top is making progress. The artist put in some rocks for a river look. The fiancé isn't a fan unfortunately. So he will try to hide them a bit more with the last epoxy pour. I am okay with them. I like how the "water" waves around the rocks. I think it's coming along great.
Also the plaster is done and the ceiling is going in. I like these ceiling tiles. Not too expensive but not cheap looking.

I got to say, it's beautiful! A neighbor and I have been talking about doing a coffee table like that for a while now.
Looking at the last picture, is the light strip IN the epoxy?

Looking great. I always love when the paint goes on because it means the worst of the mess is over.

Yes the light is in the epoxy. If it dies it isn’t visible so will just cut off the wire.

No paint yet. That’s just plaster. Full skim coat.

Well I'll keep up the thread even though we are busy with the virus.
I built the bar foot rail out of iron pipe. The top has had it's final pour and is curing now.
The front of the bar will be corrugated roof metal.

Well I'm going to keep going. Floors are done. We went with the luxury vinyl plank as discussed in another thread I had about putting down tile.
The cost to have the bar built was prohibitive so I'm doing it myself, with the exception of the custom top in previous posts. We are going industrial and since I'm not good at finish carpentry this is a look I can achieve.
So I put the front of the bar on today. I'll do the sides later this week, using angle aluminum for the corners. The back side will have wood trim stained and poly. Here's the idea of the look of the bar and you can see the floors, although they are covered in dust right now.

I've just about finished the bar. I have shelves cut already but waiting on the electrician to add outlet before I put the shelves in. Still need to stain them. Not coming out too bad considering my lack of any carpentry skills. Luckily the rustic industrial look doesn't need precision. Bar top is done too but we need to wait for the guy that made it to find a delivery time.
Bar so far...

That looks great. Love the industrial look. My wife would hate it, but I guess that’s why my basement is just shelves and storage.

I'm very lucky. My fiancé has pretty much given me free reign for the basement. The upstairs is her style and basement is mine. Although we have very similar tastes so it's not a problem anyhow.

Looks great, but is it too late to make the corrugation go vertical?
