For years when getting home internet I've just used the standard cable company rental modem/router combo simply because it's easier. However at $15 a month I'm wondering if it's really worth it. Obviously it's easier both from a "purchasing" standpoint and if something goes wrong with it you can just send it back and get a new one. Plus there's better support for troubleshooting. But if you have it for multiple years it's more expensive in the long run.

So I've been looking at getting my own. Comcast has a myriad of compatible options and I had narrowed it down to the Hitron CODA but then diving deeper into the reviews it can have connection issues and it doesn't always maintain it's advertised speeds. I also looked at the ARRIS SURFboard SB8200 but before pulling the trigger I figured I'd check with the always knowing forum. I'm hoping to not spend over $150 for the modem alone, and similar or less than $100 for the router. Up to gigabit speeds in case I ever go that route.

For the router I had my eye on the TP-Link AX1800

I have been using the Motorola MB7621 Cable Modem on Xfinity and it's been real stable and solid. Paid $85 for it on Amazon.

comcast/xfinity router will work, be an easy setup with the equipment they can provide.

as long as you have the tech savvy to setup your router, resolve issues, get the tp -linkxxxx!!

Just replaced mine, it was pricey but worth it:

I purchased a Netgear modem (CM2050V) and Netgear router (AX5400).

I have this modem sitting around not being used since I switched to fiber internet:

Motorola

The forum has been good to me as far as Karmas, if you want this let me know and send an email to my listed email address in my profile. Consider it an instant karma.

It’s DOCSIS 3.1 and rated for gigabit internet from Xfinity, I stopped using it mid 2022

Very generous of you, PASig. I just got a new cable modem and was going to offer my "retired" Motorola modem. It's DOCSIS 3.0, so yours is a better unit. Well done, sir.

Modem is shipped.

Please let me know when you receive it and if you have any issues.

My current router is the TP-Link Archer A7 and I’m really impressed with the range on it
