Yeah my club is also membership only, a guest has to be escorted. The 300 & 500 ranges are limited to persons qualified by a staff member.

They just finished the berms on those ranges I highlighted them in red.

At my range, we are an all volunteer operation. We are open 4 days a week to the public. Our volunteer range masters (trained of course) have seen so many bad gun handling acts that they want all guns to remain in the vehicle until after the customer signs in and receives instructions.

A guy I workout with posted the picture below from his CCW class and was recommending the instructor to others.

I asked him if there was a person standing behind the camera when the pic was taken. He responded that it was the instructor taking the pic and it was fine since all the guns were unloaded. I went off on him, then his family and friends piled on. His Dad simply said "that's how you get accidentally shot"

Maybe it might be a good idea to welcome all these new gun owners.

You might get to meet one of them after they cap their instructor.

Look at that pic. What might be the tacit lesson these people are being taught? Hint: It ain't good

My plan is to clear the range of all other shooters before I start shooting. Its easy and really effective. I always take along a box of the ammo to show the guy upstairs in the gunshop portion and to give him time to "gear up" by putting on a set of good muffs. Then tell him its not enough.

Then we go downstairs and put in our ear plugs and over them the best set of muffs I've ever found. People look at me and suggest I'm an idiot. Its OK, I smile at the fools. Then I load up my "range clearer" gun, take my first shot and look around at the fools running for the stairs and cover. Yeah, they all complain about me. The clerk upstairs is muffed up and laughing.

I bought the rifle on a whim for my 50th Bday. its my first and only Weatherby. One of their little .30-378 ear splitters. I bring along the ammo box that shows velocity at 3996. The range limit is 4000 fps. Clearly rated at 4 fps under the max. But its the brake that makes it so terrible. It just roars. Anyone without both muffs and plugs is in for a treat. Gawd its loud, and if the first shot doesn't do the trick, the 2nd or 3rd will.

My L.A.R. Grizzly in .50AE does a pretty good job of clearing the immediate area. Those that remain are too stunned to shoot.

Do you drive an old beater to the range with four spares in the trunk, like'Dalton'?

I do appreciate my little private range. It is outdoor, not fancy, but populated by crusty old curmudgeons who are very interested in not being shot.

No one is ever in a hurry and it makes for a nice shooting experience. We do have a few who bring some loud stuff to the range but are always very cautious about letting everyone know what they're about to touch off.

I usually shoot during my lunch break on weekdays when the range has only a few other guys around. Most of the crusty old fellers don't like the midday heat.

The picture is completely dumb, and is totally the fault of the “instructor”. He needs to be horsewhipped for doing something that damn stupid for his ‘gram profile.

My range (I'm a member, family owned business with two generations running it) is a got damn fucking shit show right now. The newbs are Shaniqua and them and they have zero clue what the fuck they are doing. Several times I've gone to the owner, his wife, or one of their kids (all in the 20's) and asked to be switched lanes to the other side or just wait it out. Easy to wait, these clowns get one whole box of ammmo and "share" it between like 4 people. It's a cluster fuck.

What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

I stopped going to public ranges years ago for that very reason. In NH there was a place called the Manchester Firing Line and they had fully auto weapons for rental. When I saw all the Massachusetts plates I knew what was about to happen.

Blacks and hispanics treating weapons like they were toys. Sweeping everyone on the range just so they could pose with an MP5. I'm not being racist it's what happened. And the hooping and hollering... social etiquette is non-existant.

When I brought this up to the range officer he couldn't have cared less. I didn't even bother unpacking my gear. Just took my stuff and left. They did try to charge me for the lane even though I wasn't there for 2 minutes. Dickbags the whole lot of them.

MFL is one of the worst run operations I've ever seen and I have never been back since.
