Galesburg is about two hours SW of Chicago and one hour SE of me (Davenport IA). The link has a photo of the suspect who survived. https://www.galesburg.com/stor...burglary/6581166002/ Teenager dies from gunshot wound after attempted burglary in Galesburg Matt Koester The Register-Mail Updated 2:55PM CT 7 Jan 21 GALESBURG — A 17 year old from Peoria died Wednesday following a gunshot wound, according to Galesburg police. A suspect, 18, is now in custody with charges of burglary and felony murder. After a call at 10:22 p.m., police responded to Galesburg Guns and Ammo on South Henderson Street Wednesday in reference to a disturbance there involving gunshots. When officers arrived, they determined that several suspects had broken into the business. Police Chief Russ Idle says they used a large rock or cinderblock to break in, and that investigation has shown that there were four or five individuals attempting the burglary. According to police, the owner of the business was inside it during the break in, and a preliminary investigation indicated that the business’ owner fired four to five shots at the suspects after they entered the gun shop. The name of the store owner who fired the shots is not being revealed. Police say that shortly after that a vehicle pulled up to the emergency room of Cottage Hospital. A 17 year old male was dropped off at the front door with a gunshot wound, and the others in the vehicle immediately drove away. Hospital staff provided medical aid to the teen, who later died from his injuries. Galesburg police determined through further investigation that the vehicle used for the burglary belonged to Jakobe D. Brown, 18, Peoria. He and his vehicle were located in Peoria and brought to Galesburg, where Brown was arrested and charged with burglary and felony murder. Felony murder does not mean that Brown is accused of fatally shooting the 17 year old, but that he is responsible for the death. "Under Illinois law if a person commits a felony offense and during the commission of that offense someone dies, the person is responsible for that death," Galesburg Police Chief Russ Idle said via email Thursday. Brown was processed in the Knox County Jail to await a court appearance. The investigation of this case is still ongoing. This marks the fourth shooting in the first seven days of the year according to State’s attorney Jeremy Karlin. Shots were recently fired in Galesburg on New Year’s, then twice on Monday and again on Wednesday. The second shooting Monday was a fatal case. Rachel Likes, 26, was found in the driver’s seat of her car on the 300 block of West First Street Monday at about 5 p.m. She was later pronounced dead at Galesburg Cottage Hospital. Suspect Maquesha Ramsey, 26, was arrested. Karlin says these recent crimes show that the community and office need to take a zero tolerance approach toward all gun crime, whether the cases include murder or do not. “This office is committed to the approach (of) if you commit a gun crime, you’re going to prison. It’s that simple,” he said.

Wow. Though recent years have seen more of this in Galesburg. It was a couple years ago on the 4th of July I believe when there was a shooting at the park in Galesburg. The first shop I thought of was Collectors when I saw the story. Luckily that wasn't the case. A very cool old shop with a lot of military weapons on display. Success always occurs in private, and failure in full view. Complacency sucks…

Wait, what? |
I was thinking about the monetary loss of having to shoot even a handful of rounds in this day and age of hyper inflated costs. At least they weren’t wasted. “Remember to get vaccinated or a vaccinated person might get sick from a virus they got vaccinated against because you’re not vaccinated.” - author unknown

I spoke with the county mounty here in tiny town , two weeks ago. He said that 80% of the b.s. that is plaguing the smaller towns in my area are due to teenagers , living w/o Competent parents. The parents of several kids charged with misdomener's have told both the deputies and the judges and school officials that there is no way to control them. So I guess nothing can be done, people are just s.o.l. Safety, Situational Awareness and proficiency. Neck Ties, Hats and ammo brass, Never ,ever touch'em w/o asking first

Now, what's the correct and acceptable response ? Wait till all or most of them are inside to confirm their intent, then open up ? Or Just assume ,early on in the incident and get one only ? No double standards |
Seems there is a pattern there that would lend support to the value of "intact" families in our society. "Liberty lies in the hearts of men and women. When it dies there, no constitution, no law, no court can save it....While it lies there, it needs no constitution, no law, no court to save it" - Judge Learned Hand, May 1944

I see the owner was there, I’d also wager most any gun shop has a pretty good alert system that something isn’t right. I know one sorta local shop, owner lives 100 yards away. One better have a good 15 second plan if they want to get away.

Do we really need that sort of statement? The problem lies in the miscreant's culture and value system (or lack thereof), not in his ethnicity. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Or maybe we do. Not pointing it out gives them cover to continue to "misbehave". They need to learn our culture and conform to it. Well, that or die acting out as this young man was doing. Unhappy ammo seeker
