My local municipality still goes through the "recycle" process, offering separate bins for residents at no extra cost. I use the bin at times, just for the extra space. They haul it to the county processing center. You can go out there and watch the "recycle" trucks dump into the same piles as the regular garbage trucks. 100% a scam here. I guess they do it to make people feel better about their over consumption? "Prepared in mind and resources"

What container(s) the food I buy come in is something I factor in. We don’t have a choice here for trash or recycling. We don’t get the plastic bins either. The city does provide us with special bags for recycling material. I recycle but most of my bags or metal cans of carbonated water as I drink a lot of it. This thread reminded me that I need to get a can crusher and go get my change myself instead of the city getting it. I generally keep food waste to under 10% of what I purchase anyhow so NOT recycling isn’t going to be anything. What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

My monthly bill from the city Utility Department includes water, sewer, trash pickup and recycle pickup. It usually runs around $75 / month for the combined services, sometimes a bit more if we use more water. One other thing that is included is connection to "Project Apricot," which is re-cycled water that has a separate connection, to be used only for things like lawn watering, maybe car washing, etc. -- it is labeled "Non-Potable." Water from this connection is not metered, it's "all you can eat." Would be nice if there were a connection to bathrooms for toilet flushing, which is a significant portion of our metered water. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

Thank you Very little |
Nope don't participate in it but we're billed a single rate for sewer/garbage/recycle and it doubled a year ago, what was $75 is now $130.

Ignored facts still exist |
I put a bunch of Styrofoam in the recycling that was used for packing on my new TV. The driver took it out of the can, left it in the street with a note saying it's not recyclable. In my opinion he could have just taken it and thrown it away instead of leaving it in the street. So, I called them and had a nice little "Who works for who" conversation. .

Toward the end of last year they stopped all household pick up of recycling in the county I live in, in central fl. When we lived in N.J. it was mandatory in the town we lived in. When we moved to Florida and they started recycling it was optional. Since we were used to recycling we just kept doing it. The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution. Our smallish "city" outside Charlotte ended it about 6 weeks ago due to cost increases, and are finally picking up the bins on Tuesday.

Private trash pickup here; $64/quarter trash pickup, $101/quarter trash and recycling. I don't recycle. My daughter can deflate your daughter's soccer ball.

I told them to come pickup the blue recycle bin. If they want the recycled stuff, they can wade through it to get it…. They make money off the recycled trash, not me…

In these parts there is no recycling pickup or any kind of a fee. There never has been. Walmart used to have a bin in their store but it's been gone for years. .....never marry a woman who is mean to your waitress.

I put what I can in my compost bin near the garden, vegetable trimmings, coffee grounds, eggshells, similar. With clean cardboard I cut with a box cutter then use it to start fires in the woodstove. I think metals are one of the few things that is routinely recycled. The State of WI kicks in to try to make the glass viable. We have separate bins, but no sense to go overboard. As an example, the average plastic yogurt cup, isn’t getting recycled.

Here in Greensboro NC, trash and recycle is part of our water/sewer bill from the city. We have separate recycle and trash containers also provided by the city. Trash pick up is weekly, recycle every two weeks. The city stopped recycling glass a few years ago stating that they cannot resale the glass. There are disposal/recycle sites that accept glass for those dedicated to do so. Last week, our recycle was flagged due to several un-authorized items. Including plastic food deli trays, plastic bottles with lids and plastic cups (clearly marked with recycle symbols) several local restaurants switched to these for “recycle purposes. They also have installed cameras in their bins to monitor what people put in their waste bins. Our recycle was full, not emptied so I had to remove ‘undesirable” items and place in our trash bin for pick up. Now I will just put everything in the trash. Sadly, our city is cutting services for residents and businesses while continuing to increase taxes and fees. ‘Rant off” John

Around here the garbage service is via the city, along with water and sewer. I get one bill for all of it, nothing is optional. Garbage pickup is weekly, recycling is every other week on the same day. I don't do a lot of recycling (there's some stuff they don't accept), so sometimes I don't even put the recycling can out on the curb for pickup.

A number of years ago the Parish had to close the existing landfill . It had been in operation for decades and was considered " full " . The cost of shutting it down and building a new one was in the millions I'm sure . Recycling was supposed to extend the lifespan of the new landfill and save tax dollars . That's the theory anyway .

So an update to this. Looked up the current company we have had for 3 years now. They originally charged $78 a quarter for trash and recycling but it started to creep up from there. But this past year they instituted 2 price increases plus a "fuel surcharge" and then the Jan price increase which now makes it $129 a quarter for trash and recycling plus the surcharge. Already told them to come get their recycle can and to remove that from the billing and it only took it down to $105 I emailed 4 other companies for quotes and only one could be bothered to even get back to me so far in 4 days. The one that did get back to me will do trash/recycling for $93 a quarter which is about as good as it will ever be I guess. Sigh...can't get companies to respond to you and everyone wants to raise their prices but has my paycheck gone up by double digit increases? NOPE

Here, recycling is "included" meaning no additional charge but no lower charge if you don't want it. I participate because I have more recycling than garbage and it means two large cans which means I always have plenty of room. It is picked up in two different trucks but I don't know if it *actually* gets recycled. "Some things are apparent. Where government moves in, community retreats, civil society disintegrates and our ability to control our own destiny atrophies. The result is: families under siege; war in the streets; unapologetic expropriation of property; the precipitous decline of the rule of law; the rapid rise of corruption; the loss of civility and the triumph of deceit. The result is a debased, debauched culture which finds moral depravity entertaining and virtue contemptible." -- Justice Janice Rogers Brown "The United States government is the largest criminal enterprise on earth." -rduckwor

No, not like Bill Clinton |
We don't have a choice with paying for it About ten years ago the County attached the trash service fees to your property taxes, which made it a mandatory thing you are paying for. There are five companies that have their different zones in the county. Sounds like a terrible idea but it works quite well About two years ago they stopped taking glass in the recycle

Not allowed. We’re supposed to have nanny garbage persons who monitor things are in the correct bins. A note goes in our permanent record if we mistakenly put things in the wrong place. Thankfully the dudes on the trucks don’t bother with that shit and just go their actual job.

Our county recycling is free. If you have a public access point for trash and recycling, as we do, you only risk the recycling containers being full, when you get there. You also have to physically separate your own recycling into types. ------- Trying to simplify my life...
