“The villagers in our fairy tale wanted to make Belle believe that the world is smaller than the way she saw it, with fewer opportunities for her — that her curiosity and passion for knowledge and her desire for more in life were grounds for alienation,” she said. “I loved playing someone who didn’t listen to any of that. I’m so proud to be a part of a film that celebrates diversity, literacy, inclusion, joy, and love the way that this one does.”
The general reaction to Sunday’s speech was positive, as summed up in several Web publication headlines. The HuffPost’s headline claimed the speech “Left Us All Feeling Inspired.” Mashable’s called it “majorly inspiring, duh.” MTV, perhaps self-servingly, called it both “beautiful” and “super inspiring.”
One Twitter user called her “definitely a showstopper.” Another called the speech and the award a“ perfect antidote to all the vile old white men.”

How about "grown up making a living playing make believe" award? I don't see why it needs to be separated into dude and chick catagory. But then I'm kind of simple that way.
If you make a living pretending believably then you are either good at or bad at it, and it shouldn't matter which bits are under your trousers.bill R.

So what you're telling me is that they've doubled the field of competition and halved the cost associated with making the awards, producing the awards show, and the time slot to give them away. Well I think that's just fine by me.
Just another reason for me not to spend a single penny on Hollywood filth.

A gender neutral acting award? That's one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of.
ETA: So instead of a best male actor and a best female actor award, there's now just one best actor/actress award for everyone? Is that right? Oh ok, I thought it was a separate category for freaks.
If they no longer want to recognize that male roles and female roles are different and challenging in their own ways, fine. Screw 'em. Deny reality. These people live in a fantasy world anyway for a living. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Balzé Halzé,
