Never played video games and picked up a PS4 to get me through recovery from elbow surgery. I’ll be laid up a while, unfortunately. What would be a beginner level game as a first person shooter to the PS4? I did a little research on Reddit and there’s like 10,000 recommendations. Borderland comes up a good bit. Just looking some thing to help me learn the controls and how to aim and shoot and stuff like that. Someone gave me ghost recon, but apparently it’s super advanced.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands and its sequel, Breakpoint, are really fun as solo-player games due to the 3 NPC teammates you work with. Co-op multiplayer on Breakpoint can be fun and friendly but most players employ some sort of third-party mods that boost lethality--which can suck all the fun out of it because you're just getting carried through the missions. Borderlands 2 & 3 are my favorites of the series, with tons of humor thrown in with the action, but you can get overwhelmed by sheer numbers of the enemy very quickly. There are a lot of shooters that operate on the same principles of either Ghost Recon or Borderlands, so it should be easy for you to find something that might interest you. If you asked me, I'd recommend Wildlands over Borderlands. I haven't played MMOFPS(massively multiplayer online first-person shooter) games in a long time. Last one I played regularly was COD Modern Warfare 2 in 2009! Some others can probably point you in the right direction there. But I can suggest some single player FPS games that I liked. I play on PC so not sure if all are available for PS4. Doom 2016 Doom Eternal Fallout IV Fallout 3 and New Vegas are great games but very dated. The Far Cry Series, last I played was IV. Red Dead Redemption 2 Sniper Elite Series(Very good WW2 shooters) Grand Theft Auto 5 is really good too but not technically a FPS. Many of these have their own multiplayer component but I stuck to single player mostly. "We've done four already, but now we're steady..."

The new Doom games are good. You can even download the classic Doom 1 and Doom 2, plus expansions, from the Playstation store. I would also highly recommend the Fallout games, if you really have some time to kill. If you have a PS4 now, you have to get The Last of Us. ________________________________________ -- Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. Not a first person shooter but definitely a good game. I have played it so many times trying to see how fast I can get through it. I bought TLOU2 when it came out but it's still sealed in plastic. I'll get to it. Eventually. Not minority enough!

May not be what you are looking for but Way of the Hunter could be a good start to learn control. It’s a hunting game so you walk, drive vehicles, and shoot. All kind of at your own pace while an enjoyable game it’s not as high speed as most first person shooters. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If you are interested in an Action RPG I am loving Path of Exile 2. "We've done four already, but now we're steady..."

Personally, COD BO7, Zombies Ashes of the Damned is somewhat easy to learn. You can go solo or be part of a four man squad. Initially, you'll be massacred the first few games but it wont take long to hold your own.

The Sniper Elite series is a lot of fun. I am replaying them now. It is centered around a sniper/secret agent type during WW II. ________________________ "Don't mistake activity for achievement." John Wooden, "Wooden on Leadership"

The Uncharted series is pretty straight forward. You can select the difficulty level. Do not send me to a heaven where there are no dogs. Step Up or Stand Aside: Support the Troops ! Expectations are premeditated disappointments.

Fallout 4. A variety of fun and sometimes weird guns and an interesting world to explore. No one's life, liberty or property is safe while the legislature is in session.- Mark Twain

Did you mention single-player vs multi-player? If you want multi-player and you're of a certain age group, maybe consider ArmA REFORGER? Set in 1989, the weaponry is as base as it gets. M16A2s, AK74s, LAWs, no GPS, no NODs. Fairly realistic ballistics, and often described as a "walking simulator" as the maps are pretty big and one shot can kill you. Also has a healthy mod community if the Cold War is not your thing. Fair warning: REFORGER is basically the test bed for ArmA 4, due to come out in 2027. It is not optimal for consoles, but apparently XBox is suffering the most. For single-player, ArmA 3 is has several awesome campaigns, though offhand I am not sure if it is cross-platform. It is set in the near future (2036?) so it has a little steeper learning curve. _______________________________ The artist formerly known as AllenInWV

For me, the 'run & gun' games don't do much for me. Halo being the exception. Preferred strategic sniper or more open world games. Been a long time, but stuff like Hitman, Splinter Cell, Elder Scrolls, Fallout. The Enemy's gate is down.

Warframe, free and it's not to bad for a first person shooter. Solo or with others. Bioshock and Bioshock 2 are pretty fun, played them quite a bit. Most times games are pretty cheap so I just buy something if it looks interesting. Been playing Destiny since 2015, didn't buy the latest D2 expansion as it had all gone to shit and I deleted it. Still play Destiny 1 all the time, been solo for a few years and still run end content meant for 3 and 6 man teams.

Forgot about Bioshock, that was a fun one too. The Enemy's gate is down.
