As of March 31, 2023. March has been an unseasonably cold month across the West, so the snowmelt still has a long way to go. Attached is Wyoming meteorologist, Don Day’s forecast today, in which he explains this bar graph. He also covers the entire western half of the country in the forecast, so many of you will have an interest.

* Note: The photo of the bar graph came out too big, and I can’t resize from my iPad. If you’re interested, you can see the graph in the first minute of the attached video.

ETA: I meant “April” has been unseasonably cold, so the snowmelt still has a long way to go. Sorry

I'm glad the west got so much snow this year.

My last trip took us to LAS on day 2 then on to SFO and back to IAH on day 3. It was amazing to see how much snow there is on the caps of all the mountainous areas, some areas that in seasons past were already free of snow. BTW...the waterfall in Yosemite was incredible from FL260.

It's been a hell of a season.

My wife woke up to this yesterday morning.

That same snowfall helped push Alta ski resort over the 900 inch mark for the season yesterday.

Our property looks like Balze's. Our yard still has a 4 foot snowpack which is very dense. We have a lot of trees damaged. Small trees and shrubs are still buried but I am expecting much damage to those, too.

I'm going to remain somewhat quiet on this topic.
I've been living in the north damn near my whole life. (Minus a few years in the military and 2 more later on doing dumb stuff) I was plowing snow before I had a drivers license, and it's been a great side-job/beer/diaper/ammo fund for decades. A lot of long, sleepless nights from the end of November to March too.

Last year was my last year...

I didn't miss anything this year. Chicago and the surrounding area maybe got 6 inches of snow all winter! A few below zero days around Christmas. It was a real mild winter here.

Checking out the bar graph I hadn't realized that we were that much above average, but most of it is gone now with the exception of some shaded areas.

I listen to this guy faithfully because I like the way he shows the big picture, the WHY weather is likely to be warmer or colder, wetter or drier. This forecast is almost national in scope as he tracks High and Low pressure systems across the country. Watch out for some areas of the West (in particular) at risk for high levels of spring runoff. We had dinner last night with some friends who snowbird in Arizona (he’s actually an Arizona native). He told me most of the reservoirs in Arizona, e.g. Bartlett, Roosevelt, are already at or near capacity—and most of the snowpack is yet to descend. Cuidado
