Anyone in the local media have the courage to ask her how her anti gun stance should have prevented that?

Philadelphia has an incompetent mayor and a DA that refuses to prosecute crime. Since each was elected by the foolish citizens of Philly crime especially murders and carjacking have skyrocketed since criminals have no fear of being punished by the law. Philadelphia had a chance to elect a new DA back in November but instead doubled down on stupid and reelected Krasner who sits idle while the citizens of Philadelphia are murdered and carjacked.

The story has changed slightly. Now the headline is "vehicle recovered". Guessing the five 'yutes 'found the car' running with the keys in it. The actual perps ditched the car when they realized who owned it.
https://philadelphia.cbslocal....d-gunpoint-fdr-park/

Philadelphia police said Scanlon was walking to her vehicle when two men approached her at gunpoint, demanding the keys to her car. Scanlon handed over the keys to the blue 2017 Acura MDX.

According to police, one of the suspects took the keys to the car and drove off, last seen fleeing on the 2000 block of Pattison Avenue. The other suspect entered a dark-colored SUV and followed the other suspect.

And if they were white, the article would have mentioned that about 37 times and insinuated they were Trump/MAGA types. The careful way they keep it really generic tells you everything you need to know that they were BLM types 100%

Removing politics and race, a woman going about her own business had her car and belongings stolen at gunpoint by one man [evidently in conspiracy with another man]. The car was recovered with five youths in it about 60 minutes away. Originally I imagined the "five" are youths - that was why details were scanty. Nothing so far is evident to me except possibly receiving stolen property or unlawful use of a motor vehicle by one of the five.

An update to the story linked above: " Five suspects are in custody, one of them 19-years-old and the rest under the age of 16."

I'm just going by how the Philly media usually writes these things.

It's always simply "youths" or "teens" when they don't want you to know who is beating on Asian people or carjacking women.

A 19-year-old Wilmington man is being federally charged with carjacking and using a firearm in relation to a crime of violence for the Wednesday afternoon gunpoint carjacking of U.S. Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, D-5 of Swarthmore.

Josiah Brown, of the 100 block of East 24th Street, was arrested with four juveniles outside the Christiana Fashion Center Wednesday night, according to a criminal complaint written by FBI Special Agent Mathew Yaeger.

“Anyone willing to victimize a total stranger at gunpoint at any time, much less in broad daylight, in the middle of the day, is a clear threat to our community,” said Jacqueline Maguire, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI’s Philadelphia Division in a release. “No one who lives, works, or visits here should have to fear violent criminals targeting them for their vehicle or any other possessions. …We will never cede this city to criminals who have total disregard for the lives and safety of others.”

Brown, who allegedly had Scanlon’s car keys on him at the time of his arrest, is the only person to be federally charged in the case. A release from Delaware State Police said a 14-year-old female and three males aged 13, 15 and 16 were also each charged with receiving stolen property. The 15-year-old was also charged with resisting arrest and criminal mischief, according to the release.

The names of the juveniles have not been released due to their ages and they were all released to their parents or guardians except for the 15-year-old, who was taken to a detention center, Delaware State Police said.

Scanlon said she was speaking with a team member about the next stop of the day near her 2017 Acura MDX when a dark-colored SUV pulled up behind her. She did not pay much attention at first, but soon two young men exited the SUV with guns, she said.

One of the men pointed a gun at Scanlon’s chest and demanded her car keys, which she promptly handed over, according to the complaint. The two men then got into her car and drove away, with a third person following behind in the SUV, the complaint says.

Scanlon said her vehicle had an iPhone in it and likely some other form of GPS location software that authorities were able to use in tracking the Acura to Delaware. It initially stopped in the area of Brown’s home address for about 30 minutes before continuing to the Christiana Fashion Center, the complaint says.

Law enforcement found the Acura running unoccupied in the parking lot there and maintained surveillance until a group of people approached the car, according to the complaint. Agents approached the people, who scattered in different directions before being detained, the complaint says.

Brown was taken to a Delaware State Police barracks, where he allegedly admitted his involvement in the case. He told investigators that he and his accomplices were driving around Philadelphia when they decided to steal a car, according to the complaint. They drove into the park and spotted Scanlon, then chose her car as the target, the complaint says.

Brown said he did have a handgun, but claims it was unloaded, according to the complaint. He also allegedly identified his accomplice as the one who pointed the gun at Scanlon. Later in the interview, Brown provided a written apology to Scanlon saying that he was sorry for stealing her car and for pointing a gun at her, the complaint says.

Scanlon said she has not seen the apology but expressed surprise.

“But clearly, if this is the person who held me up yesterday, they did a very stupid thing and if their letter of apology is genuine, then it sounds like they can learn from their mistakes,” she said.

Brown had been free on unsecured bail since August for an attempted theft from a motor vehicle case out of Chester County in November 2020, according to online court records. Brown and two other teens were also found by police suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds inside two cars reported stolen out of New Jersey in Cecil County Maryland in March. Deputies were responding to reports of car thefts in the area when they received an update of shots fired, according to a release.

Still, Scanlon said she found politicizing her carjacking “pretty despicable” and that her stance on police reform has been “grossly mischaracterized” by some news outlets. She noted she has family members who are retired police officers and provided free legal services to first responders for decades before taking elected office in 2019.

“I wish they’d rather focus on the fact that we can prevent gun violence with common sense gun safety measures including closing background check loopholes and giving police the tools they need,” she said.

This isn’t the 19 year old Josiah Brown’s first rodeo…

From a FB post from the Cecil County, DE Sheriff’s Office on March 18, 2021:

quote:

PLEASE SHARE: Shooting Investigation
On March 18, 2021 at approximately 3:00 AM, the Cecil County Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls for subjects committing thefts from motor vehicles in the areas of the Persimmon Creek and West Creek Village Apartment neighborhoods. While Deputies were responding to the scene, the Sheriff's Office received several additional calls for shots fired in the area of Fletchwood Road and West Creek Village Drive Elkton. Deputies were then dispatched to the 900 block of Elk Mills Road for reported shooting victims at that location. When Deputies arrived, they found a car that was reported stolen from New Jersey with seven occupants, six identified as juveniles. An adult male was identified as being wanted on a warrant in Pennsylvania. Deputies made contact with two juvenile females who were suffering from gunshot wounds. The first victim was identified as a 15 year old female from Wilmington, De, who had been shot in the face. The second victim was identified as a 14 year old female also from Wilmington, De that was shot in the leg. Deputies also noted that the car had been damaged from apparent gunfire.

Deputies were then notified that an additional gunshot victim was located at Cherry Hill Plaza in the unit block of Beauchamp Road Elkton. Deputies responded to that location and observed a single occupant inside a vehicle that was also reported stolen through New Jersey. The vehicle also had visual damage from apparent gunfire. The occupant was also suffering from a gunshot wound. The occupant was identified as a 15 year old male from Wilmington, DE who had been shot in the arm. Deputies learned that other occupants of the vehicle had fled the area prior to their arrival. All of the gunshots victims were transported to Christiana Hospital in Wilmington, Delaware where they received treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

The cars were seized by Sheriff’s Office Investigators pursuant to the investigation. Initial investigation revealed that the occupants of both vehicles had traveled to the West Creek Village Drive area together from Wilmington, Delaware. Information was obtained that an unknown vehicle approached both vehicles and fired several gunshots striking both vehicles and the victims. The 18 year old male was charged as a fugitive from justice in reference to the outstanding warrant for theft in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. The 18 year old male was identified as Josiah Brown (black male, 18 years of age, address – 100 block of East 24th Street Wilmington, Delaware). Cecil County Sheriff’s Office deputies have also taken multiple theft and attempted theft complaints from residents in the Persimmon Creek and West Creek Village Apartment neighborhood. The investigation into the triple shooting, the stolen vehicles, and the thefts from motor vehicles is ongoing. Anyone with information in regards to this incident can contact Detective Tyler Price at (410) 392 2124 or you can private message this page with more information. #CecilSheriff #CecilCounty

Yes, it is getting ridiculous. Last comment for a few months, as management is no doubt tiring of this thread; it has already dropped out of front page news cycle, there is so much crime in Philly. But . . .

Now the kid's father and step-mother are getting in the act. AFTER the kid make a confession. AFTER the kid wrote an apology letter to the congresswoman.
“He made a lot of bad decisions, but this right here, in my heart, I don’t think my son committed this crime,” Brown’s father said.

Where did his father think he was Wednesday?

I believed that he was with his two children, his two sons,” his father said.

The father and stepmother, who asked not to be named, say the armed carjacking that unfolded at FDR Park Wednesday afternoon doesn’t fit Brown’s past charges. Those range from theft from a motor vehicle to receiving stolen property.

“If they believe that to be so, we just want that timeframe and how they came to that conclusion,” Brown’s stepmother said.

Yes, missy, the conclusions of the FEDERAL charges will be laid out in FEDERAL court.
