Attended a pull at a county fair once and with permission I was photographing from the K-rail track side... until one blew about 20 feet away from me. Spent the rest of the show back in the stands.
Huge amount of work and money up in smoke... eh, too bad for the pros but they know the risk. It's when Roscoe Jr. blows up Daddies farm tractor in the Farm Stock class that the shit really hits the fan for Jr. I've seem that more than once.

The "How Far Can I Launch My Engine Block" event is interesting...

I haven't been to a truck/tractor pull since I was a little one and they looked nothing like those machines. I have been to many NHRA events and seen more than my fair share of nitro engines exploding.

Many years ago I was at the State fair and watching the tractor pulls. Then I heard a familiar/awesome sound, and up pulled a tractor with an Allison Aircraft engine in it. What a beautiful sounding engine!!
