Apparently. I don't know why, offhand. Its nickname is "The Beehive State" and its state highway signage is in a beehive motif, like this:
Also found on state police (highway patrol) vehicles and uniforms.

JohnCourageShould’ve swapped the blue and red so it was red/white/blue. Why a beehive?

ZSMICHAELWhat was the selection process? Our flag had to be revised due to the presence of Confederate logo. All citizens were invited to submit designs and the citizens voted on it. They did a good job. Some of the flag designs were quite funny. One had a giant mosquito on it, and some looked pitiful like the Utah flag.

egregoreAt least they didn't name it "Flaggy McFlagface."

TomV Bees symbolize hard work, industry, and community. They must work together to thrive and that’s exactly what the pioneers had to do when entering the Salt Lake Valley in the 1800s.There was an open contest to submit flags for the last year or so. It won't get voted on until January when the Legislature convenes. They only meet for about 45 days starting in January.
In my ex-state of Kalifornia they meet all year long, so they have plenty of time to think up all their stupid laws.

sig226fanFor some reason the first thing that that crossed my mind was the Starship Troopers flag. Kinda cartoonish.
The symbolism of the beehive is very big and widespread in Mormonism.

Well put.

darthfusterKinda gives me the same vibe as the logo a certain president had. Just a bit cringy. The beehive is a symbol of industrious activity. It was adopted to indicate how industrious the early pioneers and settlers were. Busy bees, so to speak. I like the concept but symbols can be over-done and this one is. I do like honey though.

architectHow long before the behive gets the rainbow flag treatment?

Every document, every sign, electronic media, every image of the state flag that is posted in the state of Utah officially will now have to be changed. Sounds like some of that $10 trillion of government spending.
No. The old is still the ceremonial flag

Then, what is the point?
I guess “brand“ is the best answer we have.

12131I have no idea what the old one looks like and really don't care to look it up, but it can't possibly be worse looking than the new one, even if it was a full-size pile. LMAO.

TMatsFor some reason, I was informed of this process for several months prior to the selection of this flag. I saw the many entrants to the selection process, and while I understood what the state of Utah was trying to do, I never saw a single proposed flag that I thought was really a better choice than the current flag. I believe Utah looked at the flags of Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, and yes, Wyoming (maybe California), and felt they could find something better than the more traditional flag of the state. I read the comments of Utah residents, and I think they ran about 60/40 against making a change at all. There was certainly no consensus on any of the entries. The finalist is aww-iight, but it’s not great. I think the entries missed the mark.

BeancookerIt reminds me of a Coors’ Light can. Do the mountains on the flag turn blue when it’s cold enough to drink?

My thoughts exactly. Cultural Appropriation of the Coors mountains.

trapper189What is the Babylon Bee’s take on the new flag?
Apparently, the “old” flag was adopted in 2011. Before that, there was a 60 year period where the Utah flags were not produced in accordance with the pattern approved by the legislature.
