Y'know, I hadn't put 2 and 2 together until just now, but Travis Scott is the same asshole rapper who was arrested up here in NW Arkansas back in May 2017 after trying to incite a riot at one of his concerts at a local venue, the Arkansas Music Pavilion (AMP). Several audience members were injured.
He was arrested at the concert and charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Minor, Disorderly Conduct, and Inciting a Riot, but later pled guilty to just the charge of Disorderly Conduct in exchange for the other two more serious charges being dropped.

BENTON COUNTY (KFSM) — Rapper Travis Scott has taken a plea deal rather than going to court in Arkansas after being arrested in May on suspicion of inciting a riot while performing at the Walmart AMP.
He pleaded guilty Tuesday (Feb. 6) to misdemeanor disorderly conduct, and paid a $7,465.31 fine.
Scott, whose real name is Jacques Bermon Webster, was arrested May 13. He was booked into the Benton County Jail, but was released 12 minutes after being booked.
Rogers police accused Scott of encouraging people to rush the stage and bypass the security protocols to ensure safety. In Arkansas, inciting a riot is a felony if someone is injured or property is damaged… otherwise, it’s a misdemeanor.
Keith Foster with the Rogers Police Department said several people were injured during the rush. They were treated at the AMP by members of the Rogers Fire Department and Mercy Medical.
And even better, he had already been arrested in Chicago for the same thing at Lollapalooza in August 2015!
quote:
Travis Scott was arrested by Chicago police Saturday after the rapper encouraged Lollapalooza attendees to climb over security barricades and storm the stage. The Houston rapper’s festival performance lasted just five minutes before being shut down after dozens of fans joined Scott on stage. Scott was arrested soon after and charged with disorderly conduct, Chicago’s ABC 7 reports. One fan was also charged in the incident.
In video from Scott’s brief appearance, the rapper is seen telling festivalgoers to climb over the barricades to move closer to the stage. “Everyone in a green shirt get the fuck back,” Scott says, referring to the security in the pit separating the crowd and the stage. “Middle finger up to security right now.” Scott then further incited the Lollapalooza crowd with a chant of “We want rage.”
So it sounds like Travis Scott may have finally gotten exactly what he wanted...
If it's proven that he had a part in instigating this Houston incident, I hope he get slapped with a lot more than just a misdemeanor and a few $K fine this time, because neither of the previous arrests seem to have slowed him down.

I won’t go so far as to blame him for the 8 deaths, I’ve been at plenty of metal shows where the crowd surge got pretty scary.
That said, “the F him up” chant…that’s frightening. Again, my primary reference is metal concerts, but ‘in the moment’, a performer has a crazy amount of power; audiences get caught up in the frenzy and will follow those commands. I could see a performing being charged with a crime for something like that.

I'm not judging rap, here. In fact: Some rap I actually like. But, given some of the "celebrity" that surrounds many rap artists, the nature of some of their... *cough*... "music," and the often-unruly nature of large crowds, lately: I have to wonder what would cause parents to think it wise to let their children attend such events?
Not a parent, myself, and it's been over fifty years since I've been a teenager, so serious question. This message has been edited. Last edited by: ensigmatic, November 06, 2021 04:13 PM

I know Earth, Wind & Fire, which leads me to believe they didn't belong there.
Bottom line, people suck. Large groups of them suck exponentially.

A few years ago I was offered an off-duty job doing security at the AMP for a 21 pilots concert. The offer was $10 an hour. Needless to say, I politely declined. I'm not a fan of crowds.

At one point he stopped the show and instructed security to help a fan who he appears to believe had passed out. You can hear him instruct the music to stop, then told the other fans not to touch the unconscious man and instructed security to “get in there” and help get him out.

Dude needs to change his name. I am not fluent in the language of hip hop or rap and thought he was a country music performer.

To be fair, he's already changed it once... Real name is Jacques Webster II; Travis Scott is just his stage name.
I imagine he discovered early on that it's hard to be taken seriously as a rapper with a name like "Jacques Webster the 2nd".

Technically, "rap" is not "music"--it's "choric speech". Whatever. I don't listen to it. It didn't exist when I was a young person, but I'm sure I'd not have attended a concert involving it. I don't see any sense in an event where one stands up as a participant. "Concerts" involve seated patrons, IMHO.

Dang, it’s pretty lame to call for a mob to assault one of your fans because they grabbed your shoe while you tried to crowd surf and failed spectacularly. I don’t think this genius has a very bright future ahead of him.

They were they only ones I recognized as well. They probably still get the crowd going...

Sadly this Travis Scott person is now a household name, which probably means more fame and fortune for him personally. That is, if he escapes the legal aspect of all this.

I'm a survivor of an "almost" crowd surge, during an early Wings concert at the then-new King Dome in Seattle, circa 1976.
Arriving very early, the slow shuffle towards the entrance began several hours & several blocks away. As the 'Open' door hour approached, the crowd grew ever more dense closer to the door. The general liter & street debris accumulated, to nearly knee-high, of wine bottles, plastic bags, etc.
By the time we were 'INside' I was nearly exhausted & growing apprehensive. The Wings guys appeared on a small balcony above the entrance, & the crowd become almost electrified.
The was a LOT of room inside, and there were multiple very large screens placed about as most of the crowd was not close enough to recognize any faces on stage. I had never been inside a building where you could actually see most of the 75,000 attendees from where ever you stood. We found a less=dense area about the 80 yard line & stayed on ground level.
The Band began, ran thru a set, crowd reacts, even to the relatively soothing tones of "Wings" vs harder stuff.
At some point the obligatory 'lift your lighter up and sway' to signify something or other. The swaying AFAIK predated the 'wave' etc seen in recent productions. In any case, the ranks on the floor started closing up, I grew ever more concerned, and convinced my buddies to move toward the exit, seemingly miles away.
The debris field had grown deeper since our passage, with basic rat-trails thru moraines of wine bottles. This period was not far into the plastic-container era as yet, so cans & glass were the usual. The trails between the debris were more noticeable, as about 1/2 of the side street going by, where the horse patrol had been active, was relatively clear.
I don't recall any 'kinetic event' was reported. Yes the music was good. Not good enough to draw me back into any other similar venue.
That was the last of my 'giant concert crowd' events.

I was tempted to ask if the crowd was rushing in or out, but I would never do such a thing.

The stage was an elevated platform, I'd guess about 10' above the ground level. Don't recall other details Geez.....45 years ago, where did it all go?

I'm with you 110%. I grew up going to concerts with names like Leonard Bernstein, Eugene Ormandy, Jascha Heifetz, Pablo Casals, etc.
I miss those days, and with my hearing loss, I'll never hear that music again.
