Good evening, SF.

This morning's news caught my attention with an ad for Glenn Youngkin, tossing his hat in the ring for this year's governor's race.

A little quick surfing this evening tells me he's from the other end of the state Razz and that he's a millionaire by way of investment banking.

Candidate web site

Article by the candidate on Townhall

Fox Business article

He uses a lot of the nice phrases -- "homegrown Virginian," "outsider candidate," "I'm not a politician," and so forth. But the I'm-a-regular-guy thing is watered down a little (in my opinion) by this article, pointing out that he can self-fund, given that he's worth some $250 million.

If he can knock Terry "McAwful" McAuliffe out of the race, I'll call that a good thing. Beyond that, I'm not sure yet what to think. What do you all know?

God bless America.

The way the articles are written, it makes him seem like the same type of candidate as Pres. Trump. He can run the campaign the way he wants, and use a platform of his choosing.

I think he is going to have a struggle on his hands because he is going to be butting heads with the R party. I already think they have their minds set on who they want to be the lead candidate. (I don't know who though)

This year the R party has decided to hold a nominating convention instead of a statewide primary. That already is upsetting a lot of Republican and conservative voters.

He will be competing against fellow Republican state lawmaker Amanda Chase, former Virginia House Speaker Kirk Cox, former Department of Defense official Sergio de la Pena and tech entrepreneur Pete Snyder for the party nomination.

I have read that Amanda Chase is going to run as Independent because she feels that the Party would have things rigged against her, and she has been very vocal on various issues. She has also caused some problems and controversy.

In a campaign video Sergio de la Pena 65, describes himself as emigrating from Mexico as a child, graduating from the University of Iowa through the school’s ROTC program, serving in the Army for 30 years and being appointed deputy assistant secretary of defense for Western Hemisphere affairs after he helped President Trump in his 2016 presidential campaign.

I need to read up more on Sergio De La Pena. The R's really need to do a lot of press work for him, and get his name out if they want to sway the blue cess pool of Northern VA.

I'm one of the people that is ticked off about the convention vs. Primary this year. I think they have guaranteed the Dems the seat once again by not allowing people the ability to choose the candidate.

Youngkin, on paper sounds like a great candidate, but my guess is Cox will be their choice since he is the long time party swamp monster in Richmond.

Once again the R's have done everything they can think of/come up with to guarantee that VA will keep turning to a darker shade of blue.

After reading a few more articles last night and over breakfast, I believe Cox will be their front runner.

He will get beat..

They need someone new, fresh, and I hate to say it and boil it down to these terms but "diverse"

That is why I am hoping they go with Sergio de la Pena. He is a hard liner but he could be the new face of the R's.

What they are doing now is not working.............

I have worked the VCDL table at the largest gun show in VA (Chantilly) every show for the last four years or so. Amanda Chase is the only current gubernatorial candidate that has consistently visited the table and vigorously expressed support for our rights whether it is an election year or not. If the Republican "leadership" doesn't recognize her patriotism and integrity, and make her their candidate, then to hell with the Republican Party. They have failed us in VA too many times to continue to receive my support. They haven't even bothered to nominate candidates in my district for the past two election cycles for crying out loud. Perhaps it might be more effective to try to bring the Libertarians or even the Democraps around to supporting individual liberties and rights than to "fix" the swampy entrenched Republicans who seem perfectly content with letting the American way of life wither away.

We'll never know whether Glenn Youngkin would be good as VA Governor.

Cox is a RINO Cocksucker so he is the gilded gelding and the RPVA have already said such. The Republican party all across the country will be playing a rigged game and I am not gonna participate. This is the exact reason the Republican party needs to die a quick death. None of the RINO assholes want to let go of the power and money that they have, regardless of what us peons want. Kinda hard to kick the RINO's out like some other members are talking about when they guarantee themselves safety by holding Convention vs primaries. The party leadership will TELL YOU who you are voting for and it's a bunch of bullshit, especially when they throw rejects at us like COXswallower.

we have probably met,

I'm set up at that show (when it is open,,,))

I like Chase, she is my State Senator,

but I fear she will never get the popular vote,

she hits all the major gun shows, and was even in Fishersville Sat, (she claims to be the Annie Oakley of the candidates,,)

however, she is not one that a lot of the non gun owning crowd likes,

I know a handful of good old conservatives that are pro gun, but not gun people like most of us here,
they vote for her as a Senator, and like her, but feel she is too caustic to be Gov, as in not smooth enough,

I've spoken to Amanda Chase on several occasions. She has already said she will be running as an Independent.

Do I think she has a snowballs chance without the rest of the RINO's? NOPE. At least she has balls enough to try though and in my mind that is exactly what is needed in this state.

In all honesty, until Conservatives come to terms with allowing abortions and weed, there will be little hope to have another anything other than tax and spend liberals representing us.

I know I'm gonna catch hell for this here but I'm supporting Lee Carter for governor.

Hes the most electable candidate that is decidedly pro-gun.

And yet he still is more electable than anyone the Republicans have to offer. If I'm gonna be stuck with a Democrat anyway, might as well be stuck with one that's not a total asshole on guns.

Cox and Chase are both laughably awful. As some said above, until they drop abortion and pot, the Republicans aren't winning any state wide races.

I haven't heard of any of these Republicans that are vying for the position. Virginia's Republican Party is a cluster fuck. An absolutely inept, incomprehensibly stupid bunch of cluster fuckers. They have resigned themselves to being the permanent minority party in Virginia. And because the Virginia Republican party doesn't have a platform, they don't campaign on anything except to attack the opposition, they won't inspire any of the huge numbers of conservatives in Virginia who sit on their thumbs and moan "I'm not gonna vote cuz it won't count."

This is the exact reason I am trying to get a delegate slot at the convention.

If its anything like the one last year for the congressional nomimation Nick.Freitas won, you just apply and they check to make sure you've voted in past primaries.

Exactly and I have applied, just waiting on the response.

I will not support the status quo when there. There needs to be some big changes.

Where does one apply? I’d be interested.
