Well another lobster mini season comes to a close and with success. I was born and raised in south Miami Dade and been doing this since I was a child. For the last 13 years My family and another friend of mine's family have been doing Mini season. His 2 kids couldn't make it this year so my family of 5 plus him and his wife went on the hunt. His wife had to go back to work for day 2 so 7 hunters the first day and 6 the second. First day total of 42 spiny lobster with one slipper lobster one spanish and second day total of 35 spiny and one spanish. Your allowed 6 spiny lobster per person in Biscayne National Park and no requirements of slipper or spanish. Any way great success as we limited out the first day and missed it by one second day. Enjoy some of the photos as it was a beautiful 2 days on the water. Hray, Oh I'm the guy with the lip squirrel.

For those who aren't familiar with this type lobstah, what's the taste like compared to the Maine variety?

Maine lobsters are sweeter and firmer, while rock lobster tends to be stringy and less flavorful. If you've ever had surf and turf (steak and lobster tail) where the lobster tail was lost to the flavor of the steak, you had rock lobster. (Red Lobster was stirred a while back for doing this but advertising it as Maine lobster).

Hray- nice bugs bro! And Squirrel.

Anyone that thinks rock lobster are yucky fleshed or stringy- you are doing it wrong. It is NOT as sweet as Maine tail- more like Maine claw meat in my book. So I prefer it in quantity.

Overgrown shrimp? Ok by me.

Kept between 8'-14' feet. Free diving. we do bring a tank set up for the mother load if we come across it. First day we have a spot that's about 14' that has several old pieces of a metal hull from a long ago wreck that lays flat on the sandy bottom. will put on a tank and shew em out as the free divers do the diving bird thing to loop em up. We like the mobility of free diving. I'll troll the pack around like bait for air jaws over the reefs until we find stuff. pretty fun and tiring.

Get well soon so you can get back in the water. By the way I probably owe you a couple of tails for the recommendation you gave for my son. Thanks again and get well soon. Hray

6 per person? Can you eat that much? They look pretty large. Or do you freeze them or something?
