IOWA CITY — The City Park train ride can be yours to take home, if you have at least $20,000. The historic City Park amusement rides — including the ferris wheel, whale ride, airplane ride and carousel — are now listed on a government bidding website, govdeals.com. Earlier this year, the city announced it would sell the rides because it was “no longer viable” because of their age and cost to maintain them. Iowa City plans to replace the rides, which date back to 1952, with an adventure playground. The Gazette previously reported that construction is scheduled to begin late spring or early summer. The new playground will likely be the city’s largest and most expensive. The project has a $650,000 budget. In comparison, Mercer Park playground, which opened a few years ago, came with a price tag of $225,000. The opening bid for the train ride is the most expensive, with the carousel following at $10,000. The remaining rides each have as starting bid of $1,000. Bidding is open through Oct. 19. The city offered free rides on weekends through from August through Sunday. They’re open from 1 to 6 p.m., with the final day scheduled for Sunday. https://www.thegazette.com/sub...de-govdeals-20180928 how else will people get to the Deuce and the fire truck? My father had talked about wanting to do a small train set up similar to this at our home, like that seen on the Silver Spoons show. About a year ago some other smaller trains came up for auction, and I had the same thought. My son would really like these...... Until I saw what they cost. They auctioned for a fraction of what they were built for, but still brought five figures. This message has been edited. Last edited by: a1abdj, | |||
