Yesterday (the 11th)I had that itchy feeling in the back of my brain so I pulled out my concealed carry permit and sure enough, it expires tomorrow (the 13th). Stupid me, I looked when I got home from work last night and found the renewal notice they sent me last year in the pile of “stuff to get around to” on my desk.

Today I drove down the local Dept of Agriculture office to see if they took walk-ins and, if so, how long I was going to haver to wait around to get in. I believe stupid should hurt so If I have to waste all day sitting in the waiting room, I am probably getting off easy.

Nope, 12 minutes after I walked in the office I was back in my truck with my new permit, good for the next 7 years. They put me at a computer workstation, had me verify my personal info, put in my CC info, and fill out the renewal avadavat. Then they took my picture and printed out my new card. Entered at one end of the office and exited at the other end right next to the 3 picture stations like an assembly line. Our tax dollars in action. And it would have been even easier if I had just renewed on-line months ago like I should have.

This is the result of many years of a conservative leaning state legislative body that has continued to work the state further to the right in small steps. The last time I renewed my permit they were talking about making the renewals available on-line. I expect constitutional carry to be passed this summer and the governor has already said he will sign it.

This is a great state to own and carry a gun. We elect a lot of positions here. Sheriffs, tax collectors, commissioners of various departments, etc. Because they are elected, they are far more focused on customer (taxpayer/voter) service than are bureaucracies in many other states.

The tax collector in Orange County (Orlando area) has a public communications person who's sole job is to attend chamber of commerce meetings, speak in public, go to community gatherings, etc. and solve taxpayer problems. You don't find that level of service in too many places.

Now, if we can only find reasonably priced ammo.

Maybe we ought to ask Gov. Ron to have the state bulk buy for us, and we buy from them at 3% mark up?

Glad it was so easy. Indiana has a lifetime carry permit so that is one less thing to remember.

You need a current photo so off to Staples for a Passport photo, you can take your own too probably reject mine for being too ugly LOL

Painless, simple, a few screens of questions, some data from the mailed to me form, input the banking payment info, upload the photo and voila

8 to 10 weeks to get the new one back, the current is good until December.

Forgot to add, $45

I received a CCW permit renewal notice in the mail on January 2. It was typed last year on November 30.

So, I phoned them and asked when I would receive my CCW permit which would expire on January 9, 2023.

Of course I got the usual excuses, Covid, drug history, short staffing, etc...

But, I did receive it in the mail on January 11.

So, for now, life is good.

The administration of Concealed permits in florida is amazing. Same thing here in west palm office. It is far and away the most streamlined and effective office in all of government.

I NEVER received a renewal notice for my CCW and I just looked at mine yesterday, and it has expired!! Even though I really don't need one to carry concealed in Az., I liked to have it. Oh well, so goes it.

What is this 'renewal' of which you speak? Wink
Along with constitutional carry, make sure they add 'lifetime' CCW licenses & lower the price to get one.

In Tx renewals can be done online. Although now a Constitutional carry state, I'll continue to pay the renewal fee for convenience when purchasing firearms (no background check). Also if travelling a permit might be necessary in other states.

Ohio is also making it easier. They officially allowed you to carry 3 months on an expired permit. We are now constitutional carry. But still have to get the permit to carry in other states

As much as I love our laws, Indiana is on to something.

I hope you FL guys are burning up the phone lines, as I recall this has been teased to yall for a couple legislative sessions.
Yall need to find the RINO's responsible and put the fear of primary in them!

And yes with constitutional carry, keep your CHL! It is a measurable statistic that shows the moms looking for action, your states demand for liberty

Yup. If (when) Florida gets constitutional carry, I will continue to renew my permit.

  • No wait when purchasing a handgun from a dealer, walk out with the purchase as soon as the 4473 clears (usually a minute or two for me). Without a carry permit, it's a three business day (or is it five? I forget) wait.

  • Traveling in a state that does not have constitutional carry, but does honor Florida permits.

  • In the unlikely event of a traffic stop (more than thirty years since my last one), a permit might make the officer more at ease. I really don't relish the idea of a cop with a gun who might be nervous because I have one.

I found this to be the case during a traffic stop out of state. I believe the Arizona CCW permit has gotten me out of several traffic stops for speeding. (Motorcycle related)
