March or April 2020 when the world shut down, my job of five years work mostly dried up. So I decided to change careers and move from essential to critical. It took me a few months of searching, but I was able to land an entry level job in a data center monitoring and maintaining the infrastructure supporting the servers as well as the overall buildings. I worked my way up very quickly from night shift to days, then earned a position as the assistant to the lead engineer for our largest building on our campus. Over the last three years I have been promoted three times and yesterday I accepted the role of Lead Engineer in charge of our largest/flagship building on our campus. It will be an extremely challenging role, but as long as I'm successful it should lead to a management position, possibly pretty quickly with the growth in our company/industry. I'm so happy I changed careers, first off it's way easier on my body and second I still have more upward mobility even after several promotions. I start my new role on Monday with lots to learn, luckily I'm already familiar with the monstrous building from my previous stint there. Edited to remove an embarrassing amount of typos. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Skins2881, Jesse Sic Semper Tyrannis | ||
