Buying a Directv box outright? Login/Join

By the way the other Directv post is true, I called and am saving $55 a month for the next 12. That got me thinking about an HR54 I have a 4k tv and would like to take more advantage of it. Have any of you bought a box outright? Does Directv have you sign for a two year agreement? My current box I have had since 2012 its getting a little tired. Directv wants $400 for this box and install . These boxes are on Amazon for less than $200. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dave

Yes, I have bought them outright for yachts, because we NEED radio frequency remotes. I always bought them at BestBuy. You save the monthly equipment rental fee. I do not know about the contract, I always added them to an existing plan. You don't have to extend your current existing contract to activate them.
