konata88Pigeon - roasted
I tried roasted pigeon for the first time. I was a little hesitant, especially with the roasted head plated alongside the roasted body.
It was prepared similar to chinese style roasted duck. It was a ilttle fatty but the skin was somewhat crisp. Not much meat, just a few mouthfuls. It tasted rather like duck meat that was near the liver or something - kind of the gamey, organ taste.
It was okay - I could eat it. But probably wouldn't order it myself. I'd probably just order roast duck or more likely the Tea/5 Spice chicken (alternatives at the same restaurant).
I'm not sure what the attraction of pigeon is unless chicken were not available.

KLGUYMy fiancé likes pigeon and quail so once in a while I give in and make some, I wouldn’t go through the hassle for my self though.

corsairPigeon, squab, dove...all the same. Small bird, tender/moist dark meat when cooked correctly. Not gamey, takes to alcohol-based sauces well.

9mmepiphanyWhen I was a child, roasted pigeon was my favorite treat when eating out.
I was appalled when I came to this country and discovered that pigeon wasn't served whole here, but cut up.
We used to go to a country restaurant and they would bring out the birds still on the skewers and take them off in the middle of the table so that each person could grab their own. Some younger kids would balk at twisting the heads off, so adults would lend a hand.

jhe888I like dove, and manage to kill some every year. I assume pigeon is similar.

bertoI ordered pigeon once. I asked the waitress about the bird's provenance as there was a subway station across the street and I wanted to know if the bird was a free range parking lot pigeon caught by a bum. It was tasty and much like quail which I love.
